Television actor Erica Fernandes recently opened up about experiencing physical abuse in a past relationship. In a conversation with Shardul Pandit on his podcast, Erica revealed that Shaheer Sheikh and Kriti Sanon’s film Do Patti triggered painful memories of the abuse.
Opening up about the abusive relationship, Erica said, “I have gone through a very violent relationship. It was physically abusive as well. It reached a stage where there was physical abuse. But I didn’t want to bring it out at that time. When you’re an actor, everything becomes news. If you go to the police, it’ll be all over the media, leading to a media trial. If you don’t reveal the name, people start linking it to someone. Plus, I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be if I went to the police. I don’t trust the judicial system that much.”
Erica hesitated to speak out for so long, afraid of being labelled as someone seeking attention or publicity. “This is why women don’t speak out. They get targeted and questioned: ‘Why did you stay silent all this time? Why are you speaking now?’ It takes time to deal with these matters personally before you are ready to talk about them,” the actor added.

The abusive relationship left deep scars, continuing to affect Erica Fernandes even years after it ended, with Do Patti bringing back painful memories. “To deal with it was a different thing. Main khud hi apne aap se deal kar rahi thi, apne situation se. Main kaise is cheez ko or apne aap ko handle karu. I spoke to a few people who knew about it, the moment it happened. That incident left a scar on me and at times, when I see films, where there is physical abuse, a man abusing a woman, I get flashes of those. It actually took a toll on me. When I watched Do Patti, it took me back to those days. This is the first time I’m speaking about it. It took me a couple of years to come out of it and talk about it,” said Erica.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Erica Fernandes was last seen in the short film The Haunting. She has been away from the screen for some time following her move to Dubai.
