In a shocking incident, a 48-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast-track court in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr for raping his own widowed mother.

In a hearing on Monday, Additional District Judge Varun Mohit Nigam, after conducting a thorough probe, found the accused Aabid guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment and slapped him with a fine of Rs 51,000.

“Today, the honorable court has delivered a historic verdict. In my years of practice, I have never seen or heard of a mother, in a serious crime like Section 376, weeping and repeating that her son is a monster who raped her. The court has disposed of the case in a record 20 months,” government counsel Vijay Sharma said as quoted by news agency IANS.

AS per the government counsel, the incident took place on January 16, 2023, in a village in Bulandshahr where the accused, Aabid, took his mother to the fields to bring fodder for cattle allegedly raped her.

According to some reports, the mother claimed that her son desired for her to live with him as his wife after the death of her husband. “After the death of my husband, my son wanted me to live like his wife,” the victim’s statement read.

Aabid’s younger brothers, Yusuf and Javed lodged the First Information Report (FIR) with the police after their mother shared her ordeal with them. “The mother told us about the incident when she returned. We tried to sort out the issue within the family but Aabid kept threatening our mother to live with him as his wife following which we lodged the FIR,” the accused’s brother claimed as reported by Indian Express.

On January 21, 2023, a case was registered under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Aabid was arrested on January 22.
