A plastic recycling unit located in a residential area in Sunkadaktte was gutted and two houses adjacent to it partially damaged in an accidental fire that broke out in the afternoon on Thursday.
The fire was noticed around 2.10 p.m. prompting the occupants to rush out to safety. The fire spread due to the plastic material
Two houses adjacent to the unit were also partially damaged in the fire, officials said. Five fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire after two hours of dousing operations. Material and equipment worth lakhs were damaged but no one was injured in the incident, a police officer said.
According to the Byadarahalli police, the unit was operating without the required permission. The police are yet to ascertain the cause of fire.
