Sai Sudharsan breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record, becomes fastest Indian to reach 2000 T20 runs

Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan reached the 2000-run T20 milestone on Friday during the IPL 2025 match against the SunRisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The left-handed opener reached the feat when he crossed 32 runs during his innings, making the second-fastest batter ever to scale 2000 runs in the T20 format. Only Australia’s Shaun Marsh reached 2000 T20 runs in fewer innings than Sudarshan who got there in 54 innings.

The 23-year-old Tamil Nadu batter broke batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record for becoming the fastest Indian batter to amass 2000 T20 runs. Tendulkar, who made his T20 debut in India’s first-ever game in the format against South Africa in 2006, reached the milestone in his 59th innings in 2011.

Last year, Sudharsan reached 1000 runs in the format during an IPL match against the Mumbai Indians in his 32nd innings, making him the third-fastest Indian to the milestone behind Devdutt Padikkal (25), Rohan Kadam (27) and Tendulkar (31).

Sudharsan had also become the quickest Indian batter to reach 1000 runs in the IPL last season in only 25 innings, surpassing the joint-Indian record held by the legendary Tendulkar and Gaikwad, who scaled the feat in 31 innings. While Tendulkar reached the mark in April 2010, Chennai Super Kings skipper Gaikwad completed 1000 runs in the 2022 season.

Festive offer

The southpaw has been on a scoring spree this season, racking up five fifties from his previous nine outings for the Titans.
