HyderabadThe Andhra Pradesh government on Monday announced constitution of a special task force to curb pollution in the Godavari River and implement a comprehensive river-cleaning action plan ahead of the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams, a once-in-12-years spiritual event to worship the river. AP to set up Godavari clean-up task force Disclosing this at an official meeting at Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, who holds environment and forests portfolio, said the dedicated inter-district task force would function under the auspices of Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) to monitor pollution across the six Godavari basin districts. “The task force will include officials from multiple government departments and will focus on identifying ground-level problems and recommending permanent solutions. A separate monitoring committee will also be constituted to ensure swift implementation of the task force’s recommendations,” he said. He ordered officials to begin implementing an action plan immediately and ensure visible improvements in river conditions within the next six months. Kishan Reddy on Sunday (May 17, 2026), asserted that the names of Rohingya or Bangladeshi nationals must be removed from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise initiated by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Telangana. “I state this categorically: if the name of any individual who is not an Indian citizen appears on the voter list, authorities must verify and remove it,” he said and stated the BJP’s Booth Level Agents (BLAs) would fully cooperate with election officials in the process, hence other parties too should follow suit. Officials of the Corporation said that a large workforce of 2,300 sanitary staff, who are mostly women workers, were roped for the mammoth exercise, which was started on Thursday, a day before Maha Deepam as the town witnessed steady flow of pilgrims. “Sanitary workers from extended areas of the Corporation were also roped for the purpose. In the two-day drive, they collected around 450 tonnes of wastes, which is the highest volume generated on Maha Deepam so far,” S. New Delhi: Trash skimmers, weed harvesters and dredge utility units were in action as the Yamuna cleaning work, which dominated the headlines in the run-up to Delhi polls, began on Sunday.  The action follows a meeting between Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and the Chief Secretary of the national capital, where an immediate directive was issued to clean the Yamuna river. The highest revenue from scrap disposal came from the railways – Rs 400 crore New Delhi: In June, after taking charge as Prime Minister of the country for a third time, Narendra Modi had instructed central ministries to go for a massive cleanliness campaign to reduce waste and also address grievances as effective “nagrik ke sevak.” According to latest government data, at least 11.5 lakh sites with government office spaces have been cleaned and 643 sqft land has been freed, which means the exercise has led to not just freeing up of a huge amount of office space but also doing away with a lot of scrap that was lying around for years in office spaces. Sources said the Centre has managed to raise Rs 2,364 crore from scrap disposal. The highest revenue from scrap disposal came from the railways – Rs 400 crore, followed by the ministries of defence and power.
