Rarh Bengal Tigers crowned champions of Hockey India League 2024-25

Rarh Bengal Tigers clinched the Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-2025 by defeating Hyderabad Toofans 4-3 in the final in front of a jam-packed Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Saturday. Despite taking an early lead, the Toofans lost the match. Jugraj Singh (25’, 32’, 35’) and Same Lane (54’) found the back of the net to secure the title for the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers. Gonzalo Peillat (9’, 39’) and Amandeep Lakra (26’) scored for Hyderabad Toofans. With this victory, Rarh Bengal Tigers also claimed the Rs 3 crore prize money, while the Hyderabad Toofans received Rs 2 crore for finishing as a runner-up. Former captain of the Indian women’s national hockey team, Savita Punia has hailed Hockey India’s move to introduce women’s teams for the upcoming Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25. For the first time in the history of the HIL, the tournament will feature not only men’s teams but women’s teams with six teams being part of the league. The HIL 2024-25 will be held from the last week of December 2024 to the first week of February 2025, in a window sanctioned by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
