Bihar continues to reel under an intense heatwave, with scorching temperatures and hot winds severely affecting normal life across the state. The India Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for heatwave conditions in five districts of southwestern Bihar—Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, and Aurangabad—warning that the situation could become extremely dangerous and life-threatening.  According to meteorologists, temperatures in several districts may touch or exceed 43 degrees Celsius. Telangana braces for severe heatwave as IMD issues seven-day alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for the next seven days in parts of Telangana.  The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has forecast a gradual rise in the maximum temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next three days in Telangana. Some districts are likely to see maximum temperatures crossing 45 degrees Celsius between May 19 and May 24. Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, and Rajanna Sircilla districts on May 18. The maximum temperature in these districts may cross 45 degrees Celsius. Parts of Telangana experienced heatwave conditions on Sunday, too. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, the highest temperature of 45.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Bheemgal mandal in Nizamabad district. Mosra mandal in the same district recorded 45.5 degrees Celsius. Heatwave conditions also prevailed in a couple of mandals of Nirmal district. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said conditions are becoming favourable for the advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of the south Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands around May 16. Low-pressure area persists over Bay of Bengal According to the IMD’s latest All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin, a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal continues to persist over the same region. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, indicating strengthening weather activity over eastern coastal regions. Rain and thunderstorms likely across northwest India The weather department has forecast scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall along with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–50 kmph over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on May 15 and 16. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated an early push of the southwest monsoon, with conditions turning favourable for its advance over parts of the south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Nicobar Islands during the next four to five days. The development comes amid widespread weather activity across the country, triggered by multiple cyclonic circulations, troughs and an approaching Western Disturbance, bringing a mix of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds and heatwave conditions. Heavy rainfall alert across southern states According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over parts of South India, particularly Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and south Interior Karnataka over the next few days. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected across several regions, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and parts of peninsular India.
