No place for external mediation in India-Nepal border matters: MEA

India on Tuesday said that there is no role for any third parties in a bilateral matter between India and Nepal and the two countries have established bilateral mechanisms to deal with all aspects of boundary matters. Responding to queries during the regular media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said there are cases of cross-border occupation in demarcated segments of the boundary, which are being mapped jointly. “We have seen the remarks of the Prime Minister of Nepal concerning India India-Nepal boundary as well as the subsequent statement made by the Nepali foreign office on this matter. While close to 98 per cent of the India-Nepali boundary has been demarcated, there are some unresolved segments. The shifting of the Gandak River has resulted in this. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a three-day visit to Bihar`s Seemanchal region, is scheduled to chair a high-level meeting on the India-Nepal border issues in Purnea district on Friday. The meeting will be attended by senior officials of the Bihar Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs, sources said. The home minister arrived in Bihar on Wednesday. In Araria, Shah had on Thursday called for a detailed plan of action for removing encroachments in areas close to the Nepal border in Bihar, underscoring the vulnerability of the region to infiltration. The directions were issued at a meeting held at the Araria collectorate, attended by administrative and police officers from six other border districts — West Champaran, East Champaran, Supaul, Sitamarhi, Kishanganj and Madhubani. The glowing drone-like objects reportedly remained visible for about 30 minutes before retreating back into Nepalese territory. New Delhi: In a security-related development, drone-like objects were spotted over the India-Nepal border in Bihar’s Madhubani district. The police on Tuesday said that a probe commenced following the spotting. According to Superintendent of Police Yogendra Kumar, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel stationed at the Kamala Border Outpost (BOP) in Jaynagar reported spotting “”mysterious drone-like illuminated objects” entering Indian airspace from Nepal. Indian Air Force, police alerted “The personnel immediately alerted the Indian Air Force in Darbhanga and Delhi. The district police were also informed. An investigation is underway,” said the SP.
