Rizwan launches emotional retort after being asked if he should retire from T20s | Cricket News

3 min readApr 20, 2026 10:14 PM IST Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan has said that he knew he never deserved a spot in the country’s T20 team based on his performances in the Big Bash League before the 2026 T20 World Cup or now based on how he has fared in the Pakistan Super League. Rizwan, however, said that he is not considering retirement from the shortest format and will continue to work until he feels he is done with the game. Rizwan’s statement came in response to a rather pointed question from a journalist on his ability to play in T20s any more after his side Rawalpindiz lost to Lahore Qalandars by 32 runs in the PSL.  “When I was playing in the Big Bash, the (Pakistan) team selection (for the T20 World Cup) happened and I had said that based on this performance, I don’t deserve a place in the team,” he said. Rizwan further said that he has admitted to previous Pakistan team managements that he doesn’t deserve to be in the team …

‘Shoot the man who gave that gameplan’ — Pakistan bowled out for 114, Bangladesh win by 8 wickets in 15 overs | Cricket News

3 min readMar 12, 2026 12:03 PM IST Bangladesh beat Pakistan by eight wickets in the first ODI, bowling out the visitors for 114 in 30.4 overs before chasing the target in just 15 overs. Basit Ali did not spare the team management. “First, shoot the man who told them to score a minimum of 60 runs in the ten powerplay overs,” he said. “He never played cricket on a ground. He just hands over a piece of paper. Did he not see what conditions are like here? Did he not know that even India have lost in Bangladesh?” Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal said he was left embarrassed by the performance. “It felt like one team was international and the other was a club side playing a practice match before a World Cup,” he said. “I called Basit and couldn’t find words to describe what kind of cricket we were playing.” He did not stop there. “I swear to God, batting like this doesn’t even happen in club cricket. Club cricketers don’t play this …

Mark Butcher slams Pak’s obsession, hails Gambhir’s India after T20 World Cup win

3 min readUpdated: Mar 10, 2026 05:59 PM IST Former England cricketer Mark Butcher praised India after their T20 World Cup 2026 triumph while also criticising Pakistan for being stuck in an obsession with personal milestones over team gains. Butcher said other teams could learn from India’s move away from relying on “individual superstars” for success. “There’s quite a stark contrast there in the way that their neighbours from the north (west) in Pakistan are still stuck in the idea of personal milestones and individual superstars. Gautam Gambhir, who’s had his detractors over his time in charge, has basically walked away from that mantra and has built a team,” Butcher told Wisden. Indian coach Gautam Gambhir had also emphasised his views on getting the results and not running behind milestones. After India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday for their third T20 title, Gambhir said, “For too long in Indian cricket, we’ve spoken about milestones, and I hope, till I’m there, we’re not going …

Mohammad Rizwan becomes first overseas player in BBL history to be retired out | Cricket News

Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan has become the first overseas batsman to be retired out in the history of the Big Bash League (BBL). Rizwan, playing for Melbourne Renegades against Sydney Thunder, had struggled his way to 26 in 23 balls before being called back by captain Will Sutherland. The Renegades went on to lose the match by four wickets via the DLS method. Overall, Rizwan is only the third batsman in BBL history to be retired out without an injury. Rizwan had been dropped by Cameron Bancroft at long-on just before being called back. He had two fours and a six in his innings. This was his first six in the BBL and it took him eight innings and 152 balls to do it. Rizwan like his Pakistan teammate Babar Azam, hasn’t had the greatest of campaigns in the BBL this season. In the eight matches that he has played, Rizwan has scored just 167 runs at a strike rate of 101.82 and average of 20.87. Babar, on the other hand, has scored 154 runs in …

PCB Swings Axe, Drops Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi For Bangladesh T20Is

Pakistan dropped stars Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan on Wednesday as they named a new-look squad for three home Twenty20 internationals against Bangladesh. Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson will take charge for the first time after being appointed last week, replacing Aaqib Javed. Salman Ali Agha will captain Pakistan as they look towards next year’s Twenty20 World Cup, to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Fast bowler Shaheen had played in Pakistan’s last T20 series in New Zealand in March, but batsmen Azam and Rizwan were omitted for the second consecutive T20 series after being criticised for slow scoring. “The squad has been selected based on players’ performances in the ongoing Pakistan Super League, which concludes on May 25,” the Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement. Shaheen has taken 12 wickets for Lahore Qalandars in 10 PSL matches at an economy rate of 8.20. Opener Sahibzada Farhan earned a recall after topping the PSL batting charts with 394 runs.  Batsmen Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman return after …

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan’s Instagram Accounts Blocked In India Amid Pahalgam Attack Outrage

The Instagram accounts of Pakistan cricket team stars were blocked in India following the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. Pakistan cricketers like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi had their accounts blocked in India alongside popular actors and actresses like Hania Aamir and Ali Fazal. Even the Instagram account of Olympic gold medalist javellin thrower Arshad Nadeem was blocked on Thursday. The decision to block these social media accounts was taken following the terrorist strike in Pahalgam that led to multiple deaths – marking one of the deadliest strikes in the valley in recent past. Users attempting to access Nadeem’s Instagram page from India are met with the message: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.” Twenty-six people, mostly tourists, were killed and several injured when terrorists opened fire at a meadow near the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in south Kashmir on April 22. The government has since cracked down on Pakistani social media accounts that have large following in India. Earlier …

‘Not even one per cent ashamed that I can’t speak English despite being Pakistan captain’

Pakistan cricket team captain Mohammad Rizwan launched an impassionate defence of his language skills after he was relentlessly trolled on social media for his press conference comments in English. Ahead of Multan Sultans’ first game in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Rizwan finally addressed the trolling when asked about being mocked for his English skills. “I don’t care. I am proud of one thing and that is whatever I say, I say from my heart. I don’t know English. My only regret is that I did not get enough education, but I am not even one per cent ashamed that I can’t speak English despite being the captain of the Pakistan cricket team,” Mohammad Rizwan was quoted as saying by Pakistan media ahead of the PSL tournament. There were even a few mainstream media organisations who had urged Rizwan previously to talk in Urdu. Addressing those comments, Rizwan pointed out that he had not completed his education. Story continues below this ad “The demand from me is cricket, not English. There is a regret that …

Mohammad Rizwan enraged at PCB treatment after Champions Trophy, fires ‘want more power or else…’ warning: Report

Apr 10, 2025 11:03 AM IST Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam are reportedly set to meet PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi in the next few days “to get clarity on his selection in the T20I format.” Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan has been reportedly “frustrated” at how the Pakistan Cricket Board treated him and Babar Azam after the team’s forgettable home campaign in the Champions Trophy last week, in which they suffered a group-stage exit. Mohammad Rizwan was dropped from the Pakistan T20I team for New Zealand tour(AFP) Following the Champions Trophy exit, where Pakistan failed to secure a single win, PCB selectors turned their attention to the T20 World Cup next year. With the idea of experimenting with a more aggressive approach, the selectors dropped traditionalists Rizwan and Babar for the five-match T20I contest in New Zealand and picked a new-look side, led by Salman Agha. According to a report in Telecom Asia Sport, sources told the website that Rizwan was left frustrated at how PCB treated him and Babar after the Champions Trophy and that …

“Hopefully Our Nation…”: Mohammad Rizwan’s Response After Pakistan Suffer 0-3 Battering vs New Zealand

File image of Mohammad Rizwan© AFP Pakistan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan said the team needs to improve. “Disappointing series for us. (Positives) Babar was in good touch with two fifties. Naseem Shah’s batting as well. In the bowling, Sufiyan Muqeem was the guy who bowled really well. I give credit to New Zealand in all departments. They’ve been playing well. We know that these are difficult conditions for us here, but they played in Pakistan really well. They played against us in Pakistan. There are professionals in all departments. We need to improve, that’s it.” Mohammad Rizwan said at the post-match presentation. “In New Zealand, it’s very important to play well against the new ball. We’ll learn from here and fix it. If you lose, you can’t say like that (when asked if today was their best performance of the tour). Individually, we are good. New Zealand won all the key moments. After the Champions Trophy and this series, we’ll leave the past. PSL is a big tournament for us in Pakistan, hopefully our …
