Delhi High Court upholds Olympics selection policy of NRAI

Delhi High Court has upheld the 2024 Paris Olympic selection policy formulated by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Wednesday. The order was pronounced by the Court after the petition filed by a shooter for her non-inclusion was dismissed. Reacting to the developments, K. Sultan Singh, Secretary General, NRAI, said, “Our selection policy for the Olympic Games 2024 stands upheld being fair, reasonable and transparent. All the athletes have been given a fair chance. The policy is more inclusive for the shooters to qualify.” The trials followed the declared Paris Olympic schedule where the finals will happen the day after qualifications. The trial has a system of points where the shooters participate in four trials and the points are calculated from the trials to prepare a leaderboard and the top two at the end of trials will make it to the squad. India has won a total of 21 Olympic quota places out of a maximum of 24 Quotas for each nation for the upcoming Paris 2024 Games, scheduled to begin on July …

Sift Kaur Samra strengthens her position in Paris race

Delhi: World record holder Sift Kaur Samra continued her domination in the women’s 50m 3P event after winning back-to-back Olympic selection trials at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, also entered the OST winner’s circle, winning the men’s 3P T2 final in a classic 0.22 scrap to the finish line. Sift, the reigning Asian Games champion, world record holder, and the undisputed India number one in women’s 3P for some time now, shot 465.1 in the OST T2 final, to leave Ashi Choksey 2.4 behind in second. Anjum Moudgil was third, after coming second-best in a shoot-off with Ashi. Shriyanka Sadangi and Nishchal came in fourth and fifth. Sift had also earlier won the women’s 3P OST T1 at the same venue on Wednesday. Arjun breaches world record in 10m air rifle

Delhi: The ongoing Olympic Selection Trials (OST) witnessed Arjun Babuta breaching the existing finals world record in men’s 10M Air Rifle, to post a commanding win on Thursday at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range. His sensational tally of 254.0 in the OST T1 final, was 0.3 above the mark set by fellow finalist and India teammate Divyansh Singh Panwar, at the Cairo World Cup earlier this year. Arjun’s scoresheet was studded with two perfect 10.9 gems, besides 13 other shots which were 10.6 or above. His lowest score of 10.0 came only on the 21st shot, by which time he had already established a huge gap over the field, winning it by 2.8 in the end over 2022 world champ Rudrankksh Patil. Sri Karthik Sabari Raj was third. In the women’s 10m air rifle event, Nancy got better than quota holder Mehuli Ghosh and won the final with a score of 253.4. She missed the world record mark by 0.6. World record holder Sift Kaur Samra emerged victorious in the first women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) Olympic Selection Trial (OST T1) while Niraj Kumar outscored experienced shooters to win the men’s 50m 3 Positions (3P) Olympic Selection Trial (OST T1) on Wednesday. The first phase of the Olympic shooting trials is being conducted at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range. Sift was up against it on the day with the in-form Ashi Choksey, the qualification topper by a distance, leading after the first 15 Kneeling position shots. The champion was second at the stage, 1.1 behind Ashi. She then recovered brilliantly to blaze through the Prone position and by the end of it, she had not only wiped out the deficit but had in turn taken a lead of 2.4 over her nearest rival. Ashi, Swapnil top 50m Rifle 3 OST, trap shooters falter at Olympic qualifiers

Shooters Ashi Chouksey and Swapnil Kusale topped the women’s and men’s 50M Rifle 3 Positions qualification events respectively during the Olympic Selection Trials (OST) in New Delhi on Tuesday. Ashi shot 590 in the women’s 3P OST, as Sift Kaur Samra trailed her with a score of 583. Tokyo Olympian Anjum Moudgil was third with 581. The Paris Olympics quota placeholder Shriyanka Sadangi finished fourth with 575 points. Nischal cancelled out Shrinaka’s lead but fell short based on inner 10s. In the men’s 50M Rifle 3 Positions qualification event, Swapnil finished ahead of his competitors with two superlative 199s in the first Kneeling and Prone positions, to end with 592. Esha Singh topped the women’s 25m pistol qualification, as Bhavesh Shekhawat led the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol (RFP) charts at the end of competition day one of the Olympic Selection Trials (OST) at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting range on the outskirts of New Delhi. Esha totalled 585 across her precision and rapid-fire rounds in the women’s sport pistol OST T1 qualifications, to steer two points clear of Simranpreet Kaur Brar, who finished second. Manu Bhaker (582) was a close third while Abhidnya Patil (577) and Rhythm Sangwan (574) rounded off the five in the fray. 37 shooters line up for Rifle and Pistol Olympic Selection Trials

The 25M Pistol shooters will fire first as the inaugural Olympic Selection Trials (OSTs) 1&2 for Rifle and Pistol is all set to get underway at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting range. The qualification rounds for both the women’s 25M Pistol and the men’s 25M rapid-fire pistol (RFP) take up the entire day beginning at 9.00 am with the women’s Precision Stage. Five shooters each have made the cut in each event, as they have in all the eight events. In the women’s sport pistol (25M) Manu Bhaker will take the favourites tag being the only Olympian in the field as well as having the advantage of having one of the two quotas in the event, which will give her a bump of two points in the final average score. She will be challenged by the second quota winner Rhythm Sangwan, Esha Singh, Abhidnya Ashok Patil, and Simranpreet Kaur Brar for the top spots in both the OSTs.
