Decades before Vijay, Amitabh Bachchan won over voters; scandals made him resign in 2 years | Bollywood News

Tamil superstar Vijay, who recently forayed into politics, is on the cusp of getting sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state, that is, if his party, TVK, can get a majority of 118 members in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. TVK emerged as the single largest party in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly with 108 seats. With Congress extending full support, they have reached the 113 mark, but until TVK can gather 5 other members, their dreams of forming a government are distant at best. Vijay is definitely not the first popular film actor who is trying to get a stronghold in the political sphere. Before him, MG Ramachandran also established his own party AIADMK in 1972, and served as the CM of the state for three terms. But, on the flip side, there have been film stars who were pushed out of politics by career politicians, as they saw the said star’s success as a threat to their career, and the one star who notably suffered the most because of this real-life politics …

Mamata Banerjee refuses to resign, alleges ‘conspiracy’ behind defeat in polls

Outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday ruled out resigning after her party’s defeat in the elections, claiming the outcome was not a genuine public mandate. She said the result was the outcome of a “conspiracy” rather than the will of the people. The Trinamool Congress chief alleged that her party was effectively contesting against the Election Commission of India (ECI), which she claimed acted in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reported the PTI. She also raised concerns about alleged irregularities during the counting process, claiming that results in several seats were influenced. Claims of counting irregularities Banerjee alleged that counting was deliberately slowed down and that the mandate in nearly 100 seats had been “taken away”. Describing the situation as unprecedented, she termed it a “black chapter” in democratic history. She announced the formation of a 10-member fact-finding committee to visit areas reportedly affected by post-poll violence and assess the ground situation. At the same time, she dismissed allegations of violence similar to those made after previous elections. Support from …
