Jannik Sinner surpasses record held by Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal with Madrid Open win | Tennis News

3 min readMay 4, 2026 04:47 PM IST Jannik Sinner’s comprehensive straight-sets win over Alexander Zverev helped him clinch his first Madrid Open title and thus do something that not even the Big 3 of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic were able to do over the course of their illustrious careers. Sinner has become the first man to win five successive Masters 1000 titles. He has also become the first man to win all of the first four Masters events of a season, having earlier taken the titles at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo. Before these, he had won the Paris Masters last year. His success thus spans both hard and clay courts. He was earlier level with Djokovic, Federer and Nadal for having won four Masters 1000 titles in a row across seasons. Sinner had made history before winning the title itself. His 6-2, 6-4 win over Arthur Fils made him just the fourth and youngest man to reach final of all nine ATP Masters 1000 events, after the Big 3 …

Australian Open: How does Carlos Alcaraz rate Roger Federer’s recently developed golf game? | Tennis News

Australian Open: How does Carlos Alcaraz rate Roger Federer’s recently developed golf game? | Tennis News

Praise over Roger Federer’s biomechanics continued at the Australian Open – first when the legendary Swiss 20-time Grand Slam winner was part of the inaugural opening ceremony and practiced with Casper Ruud, where his characteristic single-handed backhand made its comeback onto Australian shores. And secondly when Spanish World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz was quizzed on his golf session with Federer amid an ongoing attempt to win the season-opening slam. “It’s as beautiful as the tennis!” Alcaraz said. “I’m not surprised. It’s unbelievable. Everything he does, he does in style, really beautiful. On the golf course, it’s a really beautiful swing.” Federer, who left the game in 2022 after a persistent knee injury didn’t allow him the farewell to tennis he dreamed for himself, has now been marketed at the 2026 Australian Open as a retirement tour of sorts. It has seen him practice with Ruud, and play in ‘Battle of the No 1s’ where he played a doubles match with Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi and make an eyebrow-raising claim that after watching Grigor Dimitrov …

Roger Federer opens up on becoming Carlos Alcaraz’s full-time coach: ‘Maybe I could give him some advice’ | Tennis News

20-time Grand Slam champion and tennis legend Roger Federer has ruled out taking over as a full-time coach to Carlos Alcaraz, citing family commitments, adding that he would, however, be open to helping him out with some suggestions that may improve his game. The 44-year-old admitted that the Spaniard may not even need a coach to win the 2026 Australian Open, considering the way he was playing right now, but did add that he would have to identify the right person in the future. “I’m out, I’m definitely out. Maybe I could give him some advice on the periphery but everybody knows I’m too busy with my children and my life at the minute”. “I think he can get [the career Grand Slam] with a coach or without a coach, he is that good obviously. A good coach definitely will be helping. I don’t know if he has already done press here and talked about his Ferrero situation a little bit, which is obviously going to be a little bit uncomfortable but it’s something you …

Why Roger Federer, Sachin Tendulkar refuse to be called Gods | Tennis News

Roger Federer has checked in at the Australian Open, bringing with him hope and humility. In Melbourne to play an exhibition doubles game at the year’s first Grand Slam, he coaxed the world to watch 19-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca, an exciting prospect that he thought had it in him to disrupt the overwhelming Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz duopoly. “I think he’s a little bit like me ..,” he would add and the world would collectively google “Joao Fonseca”. Federer didn’t sound convincing. He was just being nice, a trait common to true greats. The “little bit like me” that he mentioned was a sky-high bar that a majority of pros can just stare at but never clear. Many media-created Baby Federers failed to reach that level of greatness, lazily thrust on them. But Federer hyping up a teen with just two ATP titles came with an assurance – retirement hadn’t dimmed the grace and modesty of the understated Swiss. Like was the case all through his career, when the 20-Slam legend speaks, it’s rarely about himself. …

Roger Federer opens up on Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz rivalry: ‘Everybody is trying to keep up and they’re trying to pull away’ | Tennis News

Tennis legend Roger Federer has hailed the Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz rivalry in men’s tennis, specifically praising their 2025 French Open final, which the latter won in sensational fashion after being two sets down. The 20-time Grand Slam champion said that all the eyes of the sporting world was glued to Paris when both players were trying to outdo the other to win the title, revealing that he had practiced with them and both were very good ball strikers. “The rivalry with Alcaraz and Sinner is a great one. They play incredible tennis. I think that French Open final was unreal. I think the game, not that it needed it, but it was great that we had it. I feel like for a second, for a moment, the world stood still in the sporting world and watched towards Paris, what was going on in that epic fifth set because it could have ended much, much sooner obviously for Jannik,” said the 44-year-old according to the ATP Tour website. “Then all of a sudden it ended up …

Rafael Nadal might play an exhibition soon with Roger Federer, says uncle Toni | Tennis News

Rafael Nadal’s former coach and uncle Toni has hinted at the Spaniard GOAT playing exhibition matches with Roger Federer, after the French Open gave him a warm sendoff, reminding him of how much the world loved him. Talking to claytenis.com, Toni Nadal said the 14-time Roland Garros champion would soon play exhibitions with Roger Federer and, perhaps Novak Djokovic too. “I imagine he’d like to do some exhibitions with Federer soon, to give back a little of everything tennis has given him and what tennis has meant to him,” Toni Nadal told CLAY and RG Media. Toni speculated that the end of Djokovic’s career is approaching, and he too could join the caravan of greats. “It would be very special for people to see the three of them playing again. And yes, I think they’ll have to do something, because I suppose people will be motivated to see them play later on,” Claytenis.com quoted him as saying. Nadal, who turns 39 on June 3, had said at Roland Garros that he hasn’t touched a racquet …

Century complete: Novak Djokovic becomes third man in Open era to win 100 titles after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer | Tennis News

An anxious wait came to an end for the most successful men’s player in the history of tennis as Novak Djokovic joined Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) as the only men in the Open Era to complete a century of titles. The Serbian superstar defeated Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz 5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2), coming back from a set down first, and then a break down in the third. It’s been somewhat of a struggle for Djokovic to get to the landmark as he has struggled in the recent past in tournament play. He was defeated by Jannik Sinner in the Shanghai final last year and when he was widely predicted to end the wait, young gun Jakub Mensik had other ideas in Miami in March. It was a barren 2024 for Djokovic by his high standards, but he did end up winning a title he coveted, when he clinched the Olympics gold for Serbia at Paris 2024 and broke down in tears. His most successful years on tour so far have been 2011, …

Liam Payne’s Friend Roger Nores Claims He ‘Couldn’t Have Known’ What Was Happening to Singer as He Is Cleared of All Charges

Liam Payne’s Friend Roger Nores Claims He ‘Couldn’t Have Known’ What Was Happening to Singer as He Is Cleared of All Charges

Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of death.  Liam Payne’s friend, Roger Nores, who was caught up in the singer’s death investigation, has been vindicated of negligent homicide charges. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Nores admitted that he always knew the charges against him would not hold. Since Nores was with the One Direction alum in his final hours, he was initially considered a suspect in the singer’s fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina. However, in the interview, Nores claimed that he “couldn’t have known” what happened in the hotel, as he had left the premises 40 to 60 minutes before the incident. The judge ruled that Nores played no role in acquiring the drugs and alcohol that Payne consumed before his fatal accident. The ruling also stated that Nores, a close friend of the singer, could not have prevented his death in any way. The court referenced an email Nores allegedly sent to Payne’s family on August 23, expressing concerns about his friend’s well-being. “Despite accusing Nores of failing to communicate …
