During the same period, the IMD station in Thane Belapur recorded 39°C. Earlier on Friday too, the suburban station clocked in 35.6°C on the recording scales. The spike in temperatures has been accompanied by high humidity levels in what has left citizens uncomfortable. The IMD has slated the hot and humid conditions to remain in place until Sunday. Meteorologists have attributed the ongoing hot spell to an active trough as well as an anticyclonic circulation, which …

Summer Scorches North India, 21 Cities See Temperatures Above 42 Degrees

Bengaluru: Twenty-one cities across five states in India registered temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and above today. National capital Delhi will have to grapple with the heat wave for the next three days. The wind speed will gradually decrease thereafter becoming 4-6 kmph from the southeast direction during the afternoon. It will increase becoming less than 8 kmph from the southeast direction during evening and night,” read a communique from the met office. The heat in Rajasthan’s Barmer has set new records. The maximum temperature on Sunday was 45.6 degrees Celsius – the highest ever in the first week of April. The departure is 6.8 degrees above normal. …

Civil War Review: As A Cautionary War Tale, It Stings And Scorches

A still from Civil War. When democracy begins to recede and the safety nets fail, violence and chaos inevitably rush in to fill the vacuum. Civil War, a tautly edited, blisteringly powerful political thriller, drives home the point with unsettling force and a rare level of insight and integrity. Writer-director Alex Garland imagines a dystopian near future where the United States of America, no longer united, is on the brink of caving in upon itself. A dangerously pompous President ensconced in the White House and an array of armed combatants – one is never quite sure who wants what and why, but it does not matter – are locked in a fierce war. It is not the details but the devil that lies behind them – the pitfalls of abuse of power – that Civil War probes. The English director’s penchant for unconventional material and methods holds him in good stead. Ex Machina was sci-fi reimagined, Annihilation forayed into cosmic terror, and Men delivered earthy horror in an English countryside setting. Civil War, Alex Garland’s …
