The Sonos Move 2 is 6 for the first time ever

The Sonos Move 2 is $336 for the first time ever

The portable and capable Sonos Move 2 wireless speaker just hit its lowest price yet at Amazon and Best Buy, costing $336 (was $449) for each of its three available colors. It’s still pricey, but now it’s a better deal. Its built-in battery can last up to 24 hours of continuous playback, and, like the Era speaker lineup, the Move 2 boasts line-in support (but only after you buy the required $19 USB-C adapter) to let you plug in any 3.5mm audio source. Additionally, any audio you stream via Bluetooth to the Move 2 can be synched across any other Sonos speakers you have, which is a feature that’s not present in the first-gen model. Read our review. Sonos and Ikea are ending their partnership

Sonos and Ikea are ending their partnership

After several years, the collaboration between Sonos and Ikea on “Symfonisk” products like lamp speakers, bookshelf speakers, and even picture frame speakers has reached its conclusion. Sonos confirmed to The Verge on Tuesday that current inventory of the Symfonisk lineup is being phased out globally at all Ikea locations and no future devices are planned. Existing products will continue to receive software updates. “Over the past eight years, we’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Ikea and are proud of what we’ve achieved,” spokesperson Taylor Higgins says in a statement. “Although our work together has largely wound down and we won’t be releasing new products as partners, we’ll continue to support every existing Symfonisk product so customers can keep enjoying great sound in their homes for many years to come.” The Symfonisk products offer full integration with Sonos’ whole-home audio ecosystem, and often at lower prices than the company’s own speaker hardware. If you’ve been considering a purchase, now would be a good time to make sure you don’t miss out on remaining stock. …

The best Sonos speakers to buy in 2025

The best Sonos speakers to buy in 2025

After the year of self-induced tumult that Sonos has been through, I can understand why some people are reluctant to spend money on the company’s products. But interim CEO Tom Conrad has shown that he’s determined to get back on track and revitalize Sonos as the leading whole-home audio brand. The contentious mobile app is in a much better place today than just a few months ago, though some customers still encounter bugs and the frustration of speakers randomly vanishing from their system. It’s not all roses, but the situation is moving in the right direction — and I took Sonos’ decision to cancel its video player as a promising sign of renewed focus. I’m not about to sell any of my Sonos gear. For one, the company’s whole-home platform offers conveniences that competitors don’t match — at least not without hassle. Most of the time I’m streaming from Apple Music, Spotify, or YouTube Music. But if I’m watching a sports game on my TV, I can pipe the audio from my Sonos soundbar to …

Sonos permanently drops the price of its Era 100 speaker and Ray soundbar

Sonos permanently drops the price of its Era 100 speaker and Ray soundbar

Sonos is lowering the price of two products in an effort to boost hardware sales amid a continued slump. The company’s Era 100 smart speaker and entry-level Ray soundbar now both cost $199. That’s a $50 drop for the Era 100, which launched at $249. And it’s an even more substantial $80 cut for the Ray; the soundbar was released nearly three years ago at an MSRP of $279. Both products have regularly been available for less during sales and retailer discounts, but now the price drop is permanent. (Credit to my friends in the Sonos subreddit who spotted this; I’ve now confirmed it with Sonos directly.) The Era 100 is Sonos’ mainstream home speaker and improves upon the prior Sonos One (and Play:1 before that) with stereo sound, line-in and Bluetooth audio support, plus more intuitive physical controls. Its original price felt reasonable, but at $199, it’s an even better deal and a good gateway into the Sonos ecosystem. I’m usually less quick to recommend the Ray. Unlike the more expensive Arc Ultra and …

The Sonos app fiasco: how a great audio brand nearly ruined its reputation

The Sonos app fiasco: how a great audio brand nearly ruined its reputation

In May 2024, Sonos released a completely rebuilt and overhauled mobile app for Android and iOS. The new software was meant to improve performance, make the app feel more customizable, and allow for new features in the future. But customers immediately complained about countless bugs, degraded Sonos speaker system performance, and features that had gone missing. The controversy effectively torpedoed Sonos’ reputation with many customers. In the months since, Sonos has worked to regain their trust, address issues with the redesigned app, and bring back features that were absent at launch. The company still hasn’t fully recovered from its enormous mistake. On January 13th, 2025, Sonos announced CEO Patrick Spence would step down after he was unable to turn things around. Sonos is still trying to figure out why everyone hates its app

Sonos is still trying to figure out why everyone hates its app

The team and I remain 100% focused on two important priorities: 1. understanding the root cause of every single customer issue, whether big or small, whether common or rare, and making sure the technical performance of the app meets or exceeds what you have come to expect from Sonos. 2. closing gaps in the functionality and usability of the new app relative to what you enjoyed before, in a priority order that is as responsive as possible to the feedback we receive from you. Sonos permanently drops the price of its Era 100 speaker and Ray soundbar

Sonos speakers and soundbars are 25 percent off for existing customers

The Sonos sale includes a wide range of audio gear, many of which are down to new all-time low prices. For example, the Sonos Ace is cheaper than ever at $336.75 ($112.25 off). Along with delivering good sound and noise cancellation, the Ace supports TV Audio Swap so you can pair it with Sonos soundbars for private listening. That includes the latest Sonos Beam and Sonos Ray, both of which are also on sale for some of their best prices at $374.25 ($124.75 off) and $209.25 ($69.75 off), respectively. The Beam is the larger, more capable of the two, with support for Dolby Atmos as well an eARC HDMI port. That said, the entry-level Sonos Ray also produces balanced, dynamic sound for its size, even if it’s not on the same level. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a powerful yet portable speaker, the Sonos Move 2 is down to $336.75 ($112.25 off). The six-pound speaker features stereo sound that can fill up any outdoor patio or room, and also comes with a built-in handle for …

Sonos soundbars and speakers are up to 0 off for the Super Bowl

Sonos soundbars and speakers are up to $250 off for the Super Bowl

I would have preferred any other Super Bowl matchup than another showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, but the world doesn’t revolve around me. Regardless, I love a good championship football game, especially one enhanced by an immersive sound system. If you’re in need of a home theater audio upgrade yourself, Sonos might be the play, as it’s offering up to $250 off its connected soundbars and speakers through February 8th. The Sonos Arc, for example, is on sale at Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart starting at just $649 ($250 off) right now, which is the lowest price we’ve seen on the high-end soundbar. It was the most impressive soundbar in the Sonos lineup before the Sonos Arc Ultra showed up. Although it doesn’t have the expanded soundstage offered by the Ultra’s extra virtual channels and Sound Motion tech, it’s still terrific as a standalone Dolby Atmos soundbar with eight woofers, two tweeters, and two upfiring speakers. It supports Apple’s AirPlay 2 and does the Sonos trick of offering voice-activated control …

Sonos plans return-to-office push for its product teams

Sonos plans return-to-office push for its product teams

Sonos will soon encourage employees on its various product teams who live near its US office locations to come in for at least two days per week, The Verge has learned. That’s a notable break from the company’s history, throughout which Sonos has enthusiastically supported fully remote and hybrid work. Job listings at Sonos routinely state that “it’s about impact, not location.” Glassdoor reviews have long backed this up, with employees reporting no pressure to come into the office. But that lax stance is set to change slightly as Sonos continues its effort to right the ship following this year’s app mishap and stay on track with upcoming products. It’s adopting a stricter policy that will call for product employees within proximity of Santa Barbara, Boston, Seattle, and San Francisco to regularly be present at those offices. The Santa Barbara location is where Sonos is headquartered. The company also currently operates international offices in Paris and the Netherlands “Flexibility has been a core tenet of how Sonos has operated since our founding. Flexibility is not …
