My Diary 2024: Swapnil Kusale – 2024 gave me Olympic bronze, but road to winning gold at LA begins in 2025 | Sport-others News

As a hectic year of sports gallops to the finish line, India’s top athletes pause and reflect; tell the stories of their podium highs, battered bodies and shattered dreams. In a special series, some look back with fondness, a few others with regrets. But all with the hope – and wish – of a better 2025. 2024 will always remain in my memories. Firstly, I won the Olympic bronze medal and secondly it happened in my birth month (I won the Olympic medal on August 1 and August 6 is my birthday). Obviously the bronze medal belongs to the nation first. When I visited the Chateauroux Shooting Range earlier for the Olympic Test event, there were no flags or Olympic Rings. My focus at that time was to concentrate on my practice and to shoot to the best of my abilities. Since we trained there for a while, it helps each of us to gauge the weather and get used to the range. These factors play a huge role in shaping up your ultimate goal. …

Olympic medalist Swapnil Kusale’s father demands 5 crore and a flat

Olympic medalist Swapnil Kusale’s father demands 5 crore and a flat

Olympic medalist Swapnil Kusale’s father expressed his disappointment over the prize money of Rs 2 crore for his son by the Maharashtra Government, as reported by PTI. Comparing the prize money with Haryana, he said that the north Indian state splashes a higher amount of money for its athletes. Swapnil, who hails from Kolhapur, won the bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle three positions shooting event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 29-year-old’s father, Suresh Kusale, said his son should get Rs 5 crore prize money and a flat near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune, and maintained the Haryana government gives much higher amounts for its Olympics medal-winning athletes. Speaking to reporters in Kolhapur, Suresh Kusale claimed, “The Haryana government gives Rs 5 crore to its each (Olympics medal winning) player (Haryana gives Rs 6 crore to a gold medallist, Rs 4 crore to silver medallist, Rs 2.5 crore to bronze winner).” Suresh also claimed that his son should be valued more given he is the only second individual Olympic …

How shooter Swapnil Kusale trained his mind to forget debacles at Asian Games and World Championships to win bronze at Paris Olympics | Sport-others News

There are two numbers that constantly flit through Swapnil Kusale’s mind – 8.2 and 7.6. Out of all the shots the 50m three position rifle shooter has ever made, those two shots always gnaw at the back of his brain. Both were made at the 2022 World Championships and the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. At the World Championships in Cairo, Kusale, who hadn’t shot a series under 50 in the final, inexplicably dropped a 47.5 in his final group of shots – the last of them being that infamous 8.2. The ghosts of those final five shots in Cairo, found new life in Hangzhou as Kusale, comfortably having aced qualification and seemingly assured of a medal, landed a jaw-droppingly bad 7.6 right as the pressure decibel started to creep upwards. Both attempts were when he was in a medal position to win gold or silver and in both of those instances, his inexplicable collapse saw him drop from a certain medal to that dreaded fourth position. “At the World Championships, I just tensed up. I …

Swapnil Singh, at the age of 33, is enjoying his best IPL season while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). An IPL late bloomer, he nearly left for Bangladesh to play 50-over league cricket when his career was going nowhere three years ago. He has played in each of the six games RCB won on the spin to qualify for the playoffs after languishing at the bottom of the table. This isn’t Swapnil’s first outing with an IPL team but it is the first time he has got a long run and made an impact. Swapnil made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings in 2016 and then played two games for Lucknow SuperGiants (LSG) last year. He was first a net bowler for LSG. It was during practice sessions for LSG two years ago that the former Baroda all-rounder caught the attention of coach Andy Flower. When the Zimbabwean moved to RCB …
