IPL 2026 | Virat Kohli: ‘There was always a risk of getting burnt out rather than being undercooked, these breaks help me immensely’ | Cricket News

4 min readMar 28, 2026 11:38 PM IST Virat Kohli plays only one format internationally these days. For someone who spent perhaps more than a decade playing non-stop cricket across formats, across the world, it is a different phase in his career. His appearances on the cricket grounds and television screens are limited to ODIs and IPL now. But, if his innings on the opening night of IPL 2026 is anything to go by, there is no rustiness in his batting. And the former India and RCB captain actually attributed it to the breaks he gets these days. Staying mentally is going to be the key to what is his final cricketing chapter. “The last game I played was the (IPL) final last year, but I think the way I batted in the one-day series quite recently really helped me to stay in that same kind of momentum,” Kohli said after his masterful 38-ball 69, staying unbeaten in a run-chase as he usually does. “I wasn’t playing shots that I don’t usually play, so I …

How overtrained bodies and undercooked techniques derail India’s women’s tennis players

How overtrained bodies and undercooked techniques derail India’s women’s tennis players

When Pranjala Yadlapalli won back-to-back ITF titles in Lagos in 2018, there was optimism in the air about Indian women’s tennis. “Just like Sania Mirza,” it was said, for twin titles in the Nigerian capital had heralded a steep rise in the legend’s success back in 2004. Backed by the same Hyderabad business conglomerate, Pranjala was poised for bigger things as she reached World No 265, before she slid down the familiar slope of injuries with very fragmented expertise available to her in how to deal with them at age 19. This last week at Pune’s Balewadi stadium, the Indian women’s team took another tiny step forward, making playoffs of the Billie Jean King Cup, led by Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, also a Hyderabadi. But that dreaded shadow of injuries derailing any career about to take off, still haunts Indian women. Ankita Raina, now 32, maxed out at World No 160 in singles after Mirza. But when current top player, Hyderabad’s Sahaja Yamalapalli cramped out and missed the next tie in punishing conditions, those old fears were …

Seniors past their prime, juniors undercooked, India at crossroads | Cricket News

Seniors past their prime, juniors undercooked, India at crossroads | Cricket News

Washington Sundar stood crestfallen at the crease, his head sunk to the ground. His stumps lay shattered like the hopes of thousands in the stands. In the shocked silence of Wankhede, all you could hear were the hysteric screams of Tom Latham’s men, defending a total of 147 by 25 runs, celebrating a whitewash over India, the first time a side had won all three Tests against India at the home. The fortress was breached a week ago, the first team in 12 years and 18 series to the feat. Here New Zealand scavenged the last vestiges of an era of India’s infallible domination at home. In the forensic analysis of India’s defeat, the quality, bravado and resourcefulness of the Latham’s men should not be forgotten. The turners didn’t daunt them, the reputation didn’t faze them. They not only stared back at the mountain but also conquered it. As pitiable as India were in this series, the Kiwis were resolved and determined, grooved and equipped. The end was swift. India lost the last three wickets …

Don’t want to take undercooked Shami to Australia: Rohit Sharma | Cricket News

Don’t want to take undercooked Shami to Australia: Rohit Sharma | Cricket News

India skipper Rohit Sharma has virtually ruled out Mohammed Shami from the upcoming Test tour of Australia, saying that the pacer’s recovery from an ankle surgery has been hampered by swelling in knees and it would not be right to take an “undercooked” version of him for the marquee showdown. Shami last played for India during the ODI World Cup final last year and has been recuperating from an ankle surgery after that. “To be honest, right now, it’s pretty difficult for us to make a call on him, whether he’ll be fit for this series or Australia series. He recently had swelling on his knee, which was quite unusual,” Rohit told reporters here on the eve of the first Test against New Zealand. “He was in the process of getting fit, getting close to 100 per cent, he had swelling in his knee, that put him back a little bit in his recovery. So, he had to start again. Right now, he’s at NCA, he’s working with the physios and the doctors at NCA,” …
