The 23-year-old William ORourke bagged Saud Shakeel’s wicket during the opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025 to lend an advantage for the side to defend their total.
ORourke who played only 9 matches bagged 14 wickets with a best returns of 4/43 at an economy of 5.85.
Saud Shakeel who opened for Pakistan along with Babar Azam dismissed on the fourth over of their innings. on a short length and outside off-stump delivery, Shakeel got edged and the ball went into the way of the third man where Matt Henry took the catch.
This could prove to be a concern for the hosts who are aiming to chase a total of 320 in their innings. However, captain Mohammed Rizwan came to bat and joined the star batter aiming to forge a good partnership at Karachi.
Earlier, New Zealand posted 320 runs powered by Will Young (107) and Tom Latham (118) runs which turned out to be big scores for the side.
With Glenn Phillips’ 61, the Blackcaps posted the mammoth runs in the score card. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf picked two wickets each for the side, but proved to be effortless as they failed to restrict Santner’s side for a low total.
After picking three wickets early, Pakistan bowlers struggled to break the partnership as Tom Latham and Will Young made a stand for more than 70 runs which moved the team’s score to 151 for the same three wickets loss at the end of 30 overs.
The duo continued their momentum and secured a 100 runs stand which pushed New Zealand to score 175 at the end of 35 overs. During the process, Will Young secured his maiden century in the Champions Trophy in 107 deliveries.
Naseem Shah broke 118 runs stand between Young and Tom Latham in the second delivery of the 38th over by dismissing Will for 107 runs. Though Will Young was dismissed after securing a century, Tom Latham continued his aggression and went on to secure a century on his behalf.
