Zoya Akhtar`s `Gully Boy` , her production house Tiger Baby complete 4 years



Zoya Akhtar directorial `Gully Boy` clocks in 4 years to it`s release today. Written by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti and directed by Zoya, the film is co-produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan and Zoya Akhtar under the banners of Tiger Baby and Excel Entertainment productions. Inspired by the lives of street rappers Divine and Naezy, it stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, and featured Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz and Siddhant Chaturvedi in supporting roles.

With `Gully Boy` being their first production venture, Tiger Baby came into existence, set to thrive. The film was a musical drama that was inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers DIVINE and Naezy. Gully Boy is the first mainstream Bollywood film that showcased the budding hip-hop culture of the streets of Mumbai. Not only Ranveer and Alia, but the entire cast of the film has shone.

Coming from the house of Tiger Baby and Excel Entertainment, the film has been a gamechanger of sorts. The critical triumph and commercial validation of Zoya Akhtar`s Gully Boy indicated the changing tone of Bollywood. Marrying conventional cinematic tropes with unfamiliar narrative, Akhtar and her team delivered a film that resonates with all of us. 

The film also had superhit songs like Mere Gully Mein, Asli Hip Hop, Sher Aaya Sher, and many more, which are still ruling in the top playlist of the masses. The movie personifies the power of dreams and the beauty of self-belief, with it`s international standards of filmmaking, which still resonates with the urban audiences. 

Zoya, on the other hand has recently wrapped up the shooting of her next project, the Indian adaptation of the iconic comics `The Archies`. The much anticipated film will stream directly on an OTT platform.
