Philips stops selling sleep apnea machines in US following mass recalls

Philips is halting sales of its recalled sleep apnea machines in the US after finding they were pumping foam particles into users’ airways. In its earnings report on Monday, the company says it will not sell new CPAP or BiPAP devices in the US until it meets the requirements outlined by the Food and Drug Administration. Philips first issued a recall on its sleep apnea machines in 2021 over “potential health risks.” The recall includes devices made between 2009 and April 21st, 2021, and stems from a polyester-based polyurethane foam Philips included in the machines to minimize sound and vibration. As noted by Philips, that foam “can break down,” leading the person using the device to breathe it in or swallow it, resulting in potential injury. The company says it has reached a consent decree with the Department of Justice and FDA. It doesn’t go into detail about the terms of the agreement because it is still pending approval by a court. RBI directs Paytm Payments Bank not to onboard new customers after February 29

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday ordered Paytm Payments Bank to not onboard new customers and also not to undertake further deposits or credit transactions after February 29 this year. In a press release dated March 11, 2022, the Reserve Bank of India, in exercise of its powers under Section 35A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, had directed Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) to stop onboarding new customers with immediate effect. The Comprehensive System Audit report and subsequent compliance validation report of the external auditors revealed persistent non-compliances and continued material supervisory concerns in the bank, warranting further supervisory action. 3 killed, two injured in blast at pharma factory in Vadodara | Ahmedabad News

Three workers were killed and one critically injured in a blast at a pharmaceutical factory in Vadodara on Wednesday. The blast took place in the boiler unit of Oneiro Lifecare Private Limited in Ekalbara village of Padra Taluka. Police said the incident occurred at around 2 pm on Wednesday when five workers were asked to inspect a malfunction in the boiler unit that was used to treat discharge from the factory. Primary police investigation revealed that three workers, identified as Narendra Solanki (20), Ramesh Padhiyar (31) and Thakor (36), were killed in the blast. Two others were injured, of which one, identified as Mayur Padhiyar, is said to have sustained critical burn injuries. The blast caused panic in the village when locals gathered at the factory even as the police and forensic experts along with local BJP MLA Chaitanyasinh Zala and the Mamlatdar of Padra arrived at the spot. A 23-year-old second year M.Com student of Osmania University was found dead in the college hostel on Tuesday night. Police said that Yerra Naveen, a post-graduate student, was allegedly upset over financial issues. “Preliminary enquiry revealed that he had taken a credit card and was unable to repay the loans. He consumed poisonous substances and was found dead by his hostel friends,” said Osmania University Inspector P. Anjaneyulu. Police booked a case and shifted the body for postmortem examination.
