Israel officially confirmed extending an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the country, though details regarding timing and finalisation remain unclear, with speculation mounting over a possible February trip. Responding to queries from CNN-News18, an official spokesperson of the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi said, “I can confirm Israel has invited him,” while declining to confirm specific dates or whether the visit has been finalised. The confirmation comes amid heightened diplomatic activity between the two nations and growing anticipation over whether PM Modi would undertake another landmark visit to Israel, nearly eight years after his historic 2017 trip.
No Official Word From India
Despite Israel’s acknowledgment of the invitation, the Indian government has not issued any official statement confirming the proposed visit. The Israeli Embassy also stopped short of revealing whether PM Modi has accepted the invitation or whether plans are indeed taking shape for a February visit. The absence of official confirmation from New Delhi leaves open questions about the timing and feasibility of the trip, even as diplomatic sources suggest that both sides are keen on a high-level meeting.
India-Israel Ties
PM Modi’s groundbreaking visit to Israel in July 2017 represented a watershed moment in India-Israel relations, making him the first Indian Prime Minister to travel to the country. Since that visit, bilateral cooperation has expanded significantly across multiple sectors including defense and security, advanced technology, agriculture, water management and innovation. The defense relationship has particularly deepened, with Israel emerging as one of India’s top three arms suppliers. Collaboration in counter-terrorism, cybersecurity and intelligence sharing has also intensified.
The speculation around PM Modi’s potential visit gained momentum earlier this month when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly expressed hope for a meeting “in the near future.” The statement came after a telephone conversation between the two leaders and appeared to revive prospects for high-level engagement after Netanyahu’s own planned visit to India was cancelled in November 2025.
“We discussed the strength of India-Israel relations and how we can unleash the boundless potential of this partnership for the benefit of our peoples. I look forward to meeting Prime Minister Modi in the near future to continue these discussions in person,” Netanyahu wrote on social media following their call.
During the conversation, the two leaders discussed strengthening national security cooperation and expanding the bilateral partnership across various domains.
PM Modi, in his social media post about the call, said that the leaders had exchanged New Year greetings and explored ways to “further strengthen the India-Israel Strategic Partnership.”
