Stand-up comedian Pranit More posted an apology video in his Instagram account, stating that he got ‘carried away’ over an audience’s ‘₹370 biryani’ remark at his show in Gurugram. The video posted on Saturday (June 13, 2026) comes amid heavy backlash.

In the video uploaded by Mr. More on Instagram, the comedian said, “Many of you have likely seen the crowdwork clip that’s been circulating, and it’s brought a lot of criticism and hate my way. Looking back, I understand why people are upset, and I genuinely feel that some of that criticism is warranted. I take responsibility for my actions and want to address the concerns that have been raised”.

Mr. More stoked controversy after a clip from his show in Gurugram, started making rounds on social media. The clip featured an interaction between Mr. More and an audience member — Himashu Jangra that allegedly glorified coercion and non-consensual conduct towards a woman, leading to a registration of a case..

Later, the incident snowballed into a full-scale controversy after a longer duration of the video was circulated online, showing both discussing the graphic details about the incident.

In the apology video, Mr. More has said, “Because when I was doing crowd work with that individual, he made several derogatory remarks, and the audience was laughing along as well. Looking back, I believe that was my biggest mistake. I could have stopped him right there, but instead, I gave him a platform, which allowed the situation to escalate to the extent that it did. For that, I take full responsibility. To everyone who was hurt or offended because of this incident, I sincerely apologise. I also want to make it clear that I am cooperating fully with the authorities in any legal proceedings related to this matter”.

Notably, National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, seeking swift police action, had requested a detailed Action Taken Report in her letter to Haryana’s Director General of Police. Additionally, Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra, have been sent notices to appear before the Commission on June 22, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the same show had invited backlash earlier after a medical student, Sejal Pawar, allegedly made derogatory remarks regarding medical cadavers and deceased male bodies used for educational purposes. Following the controversy, Mumbai’s civic-run KEM Hospital termed the comments as ‘unacceptable’, and formed a two-member committee to probe the matter.
