Malayalam film Khalifa, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role, took a promising opening at the box office. The movie, directed by Vysakh, kicked off its box office journey with Rs. 5.30 crore gross on its opening day in Kerala. The rest of the Indian markets contributed around Rs. 90 lakh to the tally, taking its domestic cume to Rs. 6.20 crore gross.
The movie took a good opening overseas too, where it fetched around Rs. 6.80 crore. That said, the worldwide gross collection of Khalifa is Rs. 13 crore. It became the second-biggest global opening for Prithviraj Sukumaran, after Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life. For the record, Aadujeevitham had an opening of Rs. 16 crore gross.
Khalifa is facing a direct clash with Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit at the box office. The Prithviraj starrer garnered mixed word-of-mouth among the audience, which can dent its box office performance further. All eyes are now on its hold over the weekend. The fate of Khalifa will be crucial as the actor hasn’t seen a solo Clean Hit for a long time.
