FIFA World Cup 2026 | The baby in the bathtub and the legend: Messi & Yamal’s 19-year journey to World Cup final

2 min readUpdated: Jul 16, 2026 02:08 PM IST The photograph was taken in a Barcelona dressing room in late 2007. A 20-year-old Lionel Messi, with a shy smile and a head of untamed curls, held a six-month-old baby in a blue plastic bathtub. Neither of them knew, in that fleeting moment, that the world would one day look back at the image and see the beginning of something extraordinary. Almost two decades later, that baby, Lamine Yamal, will face Messi in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final on Sunday in New Jersey, a generational showdown that feels scripted by football’s gods. Defending champion Argentina secured their place in the title clash with a 2-1 victory over England, setting up a meeting against Spain, the reigning European champions. It will be the first time Messi and Yamal have played against each other, but their story began long before either had kicked a ball on the world’s biggest stage. Spain, meanwhile, thrashed pre-event favourite France 2-0 in the semifinal courtesy of goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and …

2 min readApr 4, 2026 12:08 PM IST In the game against the Punjab Kings on Friday, the Chennai Super Kings picked only two overseas players, which has only happened the third time in the Indian Premier League’s history. However, the combination picked could not have come into question if Chennai had won the game, but they lost to Punjab. In the opening game against Rajasthan Royals, Chennai has played Matthew Short and Jamie Overton both of the game did not play yesterday. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned CSK’s decision to play just two foreigners and said it’s hurting them. “It was just the third time in this tournament’s 19-year history that only two overseas players were fielded. Why would that have happened? We had asked yesterday whether the decisions Chennai took are hurting them. Exactly the same thing happened because they don’t have the confidence at all,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel. “You picked only two overseas batters, out of which one is injured and the second is not worthy of playing …

As Rohit Sharma Hits 19-Year Low With Ranji Trophy Failure, Frustrated Fans Leave Stadium

India Test captain Rohit Sharma’s poor form with the bat continued even in domestic cricket. Making a return to Ranji Trophy on Thursday after almost a decade, Rohit failed to shine as he was dismissed for just 3 runs on the opening day of Mumbai’s match against Jammu and Kashmir at the MCA Cricket Ground. The right-handed batter faced 19 deliveries before losing his wicket to pacer Umar Nazir Mir, extending his run of disappointing performances. As soon as Rohit got out, several disgruntled fans left the stadium, confirmed multiple media reports. The flop batting performance also saw Rohit slip to a disappointing 19-year low. With the three-run knock, his batting average in the 2024/25 first-class season dipped to 10.43 in 16 innings. This is the lowest average for an Indian batter while batting for minimum 15 innings in the top six since 2006. It is worth noting that England’s Haseeb Hameed tops the overall list with a poor average of 9.44 in 18 innings in the 2018 season. Here is how Rohit …
