A court in Maharashtra’s Latur district has sentenced a 21-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. A local court on Tuesday sentenced two brothers to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after they were convicted of raping a minor schoolgirl at the North Tripura district. Speaking to reporters, Public Prosecutor Sudarshan Sharma said that the local court at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district convicted two brothers of having committed rape on the minor, sentenced them to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The duo was arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged at the Dharmanagar Women police station in February 2022. The police submitted a chargesheet before the court in two months and after a long hearing of over two years, the court, recently sent the accused to ten years of imprisonment and imposed fines of Rs 10,000 under the Section 376 (2) of the IPC, failing which six months of additional imprisonment would be slapped on them. They were also sentenced to one year jail and Rs 1,000 fine each for violating Section 506 of the IPC. Failure to pay the fine would incur additional one month imprisonment. Both convicted persons …
