Meet star with 8 consecutive ₹200-cr hits, beat Shah Rukh, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Prabhas; but retired at his peak

It wasn’t so long ago that the 100-crore club was established in Indian cinema as a benchmark of box office success. But pretty soon, as ticket prices soared and Indian films found markets outside their core base, the ₹100-crore mark became too low, and ₹200 crore began to be seen as the minimum requirement for success. In the last decade, as most films try to breach that mark, there has been only one actor who has done that, film after film, without fail. And yet, despite this unbroken, unconquered streak, he is set to bid adieu to films. The star with the most enviable record at the Indian box office. The man with 8 consecutive ₹200-crore films Tamil superstar Vijay, known to his fans as Thalapathy (commander), has been a force at the box office for almost 20 years now. But over the last 10 odd years, he has consistently left contemporaries and even seniors behind. In 2017, he starred in Atlee’s Mersal – his first ₹200 crore hit. This was the start of a …

IIMC boosts academic, training ecosystem with ₹200-cr infra push

New Delhi, Dec 31 (PTI) The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has undertaken several measures, including an investment of about ₹200-crore in infrastructure development, to strengthen its academic and training ecosystem, a government official said. The institute has also launched new programmes, modernized its facilities, and achieved significant milestones in media education and training, IIMC Registrar Nimish Rustagi said. He added that the institute, which has been declared a ‘Deemed to be University’, launched two MA programmes – Media Business Studies and Strategic Communication – in August with an intake of 80 students. “The year 2024 marked a remarkable focus on modernising and upgrading the institution’s infrastructure. The big push came in the form of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting approving proposals of almost ₹200 crore for constructing IIMC’s own campus at Amravati, Maharashtra and expansion of the campus here,” Rustagi said. These projects, he said, would come to fruition in the next two years to further boost media education in the country. “Infrastructure upgradation was carried out in 2024, almost as a mission. …

Pushpa 2 Box Office: Allu Arjun film shatter records on Saturday, Eyes 200cr second weekend in India

Pushpa 2 Box Office: Allu Arjun film shatter records on Saturday, Eyes 200cr second weekend in India

After missing out on the daily records for a couple of days, Pushpa 2 is back at it, with what looks like a humongous Second Saturday at the Indian box office. The early estimates put Allu Arjun starrer at Rs. 70 crore plus for today, that betters the record for the highest Second Saturday by Baahubali 2, which collected Rs. 64.25 crore approx on its Second Saturday. When the actuals come tomorrow morning, that number could rise to over Rs. 75 crore. With that, Pushpa 2 is now very much likely to set the record for the highest second weekend of all time, with projections of Rs. 200 crore approx as against Rs. 194 crore of Baahubali 2. On the high end, that number could end up around Rs. 210-220 crore. A big growth on Second Saturday could always be counted on, as is seen with most films nowadays, though there are exceptions at times. Pushpa 2, being a film that is doing better even in smaller centres, Saturday growth could have been a bit muted, especially …

Amaran Box Office Collections: Siva Karthikeyan film has a stellar second week, to hit 200cr in India today

Tamil film Amaran had a stellar second week at the Indian box office, collecting Rs. 67.50 crore approx. There was a drop on the last day of the week due to the release of Kanguva, which cost Amaran Rs. 1–1.50 crore in potential earnings. Furthermore, the first week was boosted by the Diwali holidays, making this an even better read.  With a two-week total of Rs. 199.75 crore, Amaran is set to cross the Rs. 200 crore milestone today, a career first for Siva Karthikeyan and the twelfth Kollywood film to do so.
