Congress leader Jairam Ramesh announced on Friday that the party would soon petition the Supreme Court to challenge the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Waqf Amendment Bill, Rajya Sabha Live Updates: The Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on late Wednesday night after an over 12-hour-long marathon debate on the legislation. Now, the Bill has been taken up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha today. In the Lok Sabha, 288 votes were cast in favour, while 232 went against the Bill after the debate was held in the lower house, where several political parties – from the treasury as well as the Opposition benches – presented their arguments. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had introduced the Bill in Lok Sabha on Wednesday after the conclusion of the Question Hour.
