Court rejects‘nominal role’ claim in ₹90-cr deposit fraud

MUMBAI: A designated court under the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) has refused to discharge a director of Temple Rose Real Estate Pvt Ltd in an alleged ₹90-crore investment fraud involving around 3,000 depositors, ruling that the evidence on record is enough to proceed to trial. Court rejects‘nominal role’ claim in ₹90-cr deposit fraud According to the prosecution, the company and its directors lured investors with promises of high returns, mobilised nearly ₹90 crore, and later defaulted, allegedly diverting funds and acquiring assets. Additional Sessions Judge N.G. Shukla on Thursday dismissed the discharge plea filed by Markas Yohan Thorat, who claimed he was only a nominal director with a limited role in land-related work and no involvement in financial transactions. The court noted that Thorat served as a director between 2009 and 2016, when the alleged fraud took place, and said his resignation before the registration of FIR in 2017 does not shield him from prosecution. At this stage, the judge said, the defence that he was merely a “nominal director” cannot be …

Chandrayaan-3 detects surprisingly active plasma over the Moon’s south pole | Technology News

Scientists have discovered that the area around the Moon’s south-polar region is much more electrically alive than we thought. Data from India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission from its lander Vikram show that just above the surface, the “plasma” (a mix of charged particles) is far denser and more energetic than earlier remote observations. Plasma is often described as the fourth state of matter, a blend of charged particles such as ions and free electrons. Although it is electrically neutral overall, it behaves very differently from ordinary gas due to its strong response to electromagnetic forces. On the Moon, this thin plasma layer, sometimes called the lunar ionosphere, is shaped by a complex mix of processes. A constant flux of solar wind streams of electrons and ions rushed out from the Sun and strikes the Moon’s airless surface.  Through the photoelectric effect, high-energy sunlight also removes electrons from surface atoms, increasing the ionised environment. The Moon receives a new supply of charged particles from our planet’s extended magnetic field as it drifts into Earth’s magnetotail for a few …

‘He’s got to take attack to opposition’: Ravi Shastri wants Rohit Sharma to change tactics to succeed in No.6 spot | Cricket News

Former India coach Ravi Shastri said skipper Rohit Sharma needed to go out to bat with a clear mindset and change his tactics so that he gets runs in the No.6 position as well. “I would like to see Rohit Sharma, his tactics change a bit because he can still be extremely dangerous at that number (six). I think he’s got to be very clear in his mindset to go out there and take the attack to the opposition and not worry about anything else,” Shastri said in the ICC Review. “The last thing you want is him to be in two minds whether to defend or attack. In his case, it should be attack. He picks up length quickly, he should take the opposition on at that number. Because if he gets away in the first 10-15 minutes, in any way, he’s not got past that 15-20 minutes, half an hour. So why don’t you play a natural game, go and take the attack to the opposition and take it from there?” he added. …
