She clocked a time of 15:04.26s at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level meet in France, improving her own record by a massive 6 seconds, finishing second to Seniya Bereka of Ethiopia (15:03.85s). While she missed out on the Commonwealth Games qualifying mark of 14:56.60, it is a good start for the 31-year-old in her first 5,000m meet of the year. This was only her second competition of the year after she started her season at the Shanghai Diamond League and finished seventh in the 3000m steeplechase in a world-class field. India’s long-distance runner Parul Chaudhary set a new national record in the women’s 5,000m event at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level meet in France. She clocked a time of 15:04.26s at the Meeting Nikaïa and improved her own record by a massive 6 seconds, finishing second to Seniya Bereka of Ethiopia (15:03.85s). The 31-year-old Indian, however, missed out on the Commonwealth Games qualifying mark of 14:56.60 but had a good outing in her first 5,000m meet of the year. Gulveer sets new outdoor personal best to win 5000m silver at LA Festival

India’s star long-distance runner Gulveer Singh opened his outdoor track season with a 5,000m silver medal at the LA Track Festival on Saturday. Gulveer clocked his new outdoor personal best of 13:03.93s to finish second and also breached the AFI qualifying standard for Commonwealth Games (13:10.64s) He finished second behind Habtom Samuel (12:57.22s) of Eritrea in the final. With this, Samuel has also set a new record for the NCAA in this meet. Gulveer missed out on his personal best of (12:59.77s) but has now taken the 5,000m Asian lead for the year, surpassing Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew (13:07.75s). The 27-year-old will be aiming to improve his personal best to have a chance of a medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, among the powerhouse nations of Kenya and Ethiopia. Uttar Pradesh’s Nitin Gupta created history at the 20th National Youth Athletics Championships 2025 in Patna, Bihar, by becoming the first Indian to break the 20-minute barrier in the men’s under-18 5000m hurdles.
