Police said the financial setbacks had pushed him into significant debt, and he was allegedly facing pressure from creditors. Distressed by the situation, Venkatesh reportedly ended his life. His body was found on a railway track near Hebbal on Sunday. Personnel from the Baiyappanahalli Railway Police Station reached the spot after the incident and conducted an inspection. Former Director General of Police (DGP) Shabbir Khandwawala, 76, who was Gujarat’s first Muslim police chief, was Tuesday acquitted in a case of custodial torture going back 50 years by the Gujarat High Court on the grounds that the  prosecution had “failed to establish beyond reasonable doubt” the bodily injury to the complainant was inflicted in police custody. In a 164-page judgment delivered Tuesday, Justice Gita Gopi of the Gujarat HC set aside the 2003 judgment that had convicted the 1973-batch IPS officer to five years of rigorous imprisonment handed out by the Additional Sessions Judge of the Fifth Fast Track Court in Junagadh, holding that it was “erroneous and fails in merit”. The State government’s appeal seeking enhancement of the sentence was also dismissed. The trial was carried out on a complaint by one Merag Haja who alleged he was tortured in custody to “extract a confession” that led to him being permanently maimed. A 50-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death following a minor altercation in north Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area on January 1, police said on Friday. According to the news agency ANI, the victim worked as a tailor in Shastri Nagar. According to the police, the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Adarsh Nagar police station. A child in conflict with law (CCL) allegedly stabbed Bihari Lal during a verbal dispute. The juvenile, a Class 9 school dropout, reportedly told the police that he attacked the victim in a fit of rage after being verbally abused. Police further stated that an accomplice, a resident of D-Block, Azadpur, allegedly assaulted the victim by kicking him during the incident, reported ANI.  The injured man was immediately shifted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. A 50-year-old man died after he accidentally came under a JCB machine when the heavy equipment was being used to dig a well in Maharashtra`s Latur district on Saturday, police said. The freak accident occurred around 3 pm at Nagalgaon village in Udgir tehsil, they said. A well was being dug in a farm with the help of a JCB machine, owned by victim Madhav Kamble. During the work, Kamble accidentally came under a track, the chain-like wheel of the earthmoving equipment, which crushed the lower part of his body, an official said. Noida: A 50-year-old doctor was found murdered in a house he had rented out in Greater Noida, while the two tenants living there are on the run, police said on Tuesday. Dr Dinesh Gaur’s body was found soaked in blood in a room of his house in Sanjay Vihar Colony, Kulesara village, on January 26, police said.
