An 82-year-old woman was killed in a leopard attack in the early hours of Friday in Inamgaon village, located in the Shirur Forest Range of Pune district of Maharashtra, a forest official said. According to the official, Lakshmibai Baban Bhoite was asleep on the front porch of her house at Kaul Vasti on Nalge Mala Road around 4.30 am when the wild cat attacked her, PTI reported. “The leopard initially targeted a dog. When the dog escaped, the big cat turned its attention to the elderly woman. It dragged Bhoite across the tar road behind her house. It pulled her nearly 700 feet into a nearby sugarcane field, where her body was later found,” the official said. “The incident was reported to the Shirur Forest Officer in Pune at around 6.45 am by local residents. New Delhi: An 82-year-old woman is in an ICU, under observation for potential brain bleeds, following a fall at the Delhi airport after she was allegedly denied a wheelchair which was pre-booked with Air India. After waiting for an hour for the wheelchair, the woman – the widow of a decorated Lieutenant General – had to walk a considerable distance at the airport with the help of a family member and fell near a counter of the airline when her legs gave way.  The woman’s granddaughter alleged that she was not provided first aid and, after a wheelchair finally arrived, boarded on the aircraft with a bleeding lip and injuries to her head and nose. The granddaughter said her grandmother has been in the ICU for two days and the left side of her body is losing strength.  Responding to the granddaughter’s post, Air India said it was “concerned to note” the incident and wished the woman a speedy recovery. The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to two more former members of the Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), including an 82-year-old, whose acquittals by the trial court in the Hashimpura massacre case were reversed by the Delhi High Court. A bench of Justices A S Oka and A G Masih noted that they had spent six years in prison after the high court overturned their acquittal in 2018. On December 6, the Supreme Court gave bail to eight convicts in the case, all of whom were former members of the PAC. As per the prosecution’s case, communal riots took place in Meerut district in May 1987. As a result, the police, paramilitary and military forces were posted in Hashimpura mohalla for riot control and security. This included the ‘C-Company’ of the PAC’s 41st Battalion. On May 21, 1987, the brother of an Army Major was killed in the mohalla adjacent to Hashimpura and two rifles belonging to PAC personnel were looted by certain anti-social elements. On the day she was born, Sukhwant Kaur’s father, Sulakhan Singh, was in Lahore Jail as part of India’s freedom movement. Eighty-two-year-old Sukhwant Kaur witnessed the partition of India and Pakistan as a child, surviving the bloodbath to reach newly created India with her father, later recognised as a freedom fighter. The family settled in Bhakna village, Amritsar, in 1947, where Kaur became the first student at a school started by Gadar Party founder Sohan Singh Bhakna, a close associate of her father. Married to government lecturer Sukhdev Singh, Kaur lived a fulfilling life until tragedy struck in November 1992, when the police killed her father, husband, and son in staged encounters, denying her their bodies for last rites. On October 31, 1992, Sulakhan Singh visited Kaur in Amritsar. The next morning, the police detained him and her husband at Sarhali police station under ASI Avtar Singh.
