Neeraj Chopra Up Against Julian Weber Again In Poland After 90m Duel In Doha

The coveted 90m frontier finally breached in Doha last week, Neeraj Chopra will be eying an even bigger throw in yet another top-class men’s javelin field at the ORLEN Janusz Kusocinski Memorial meet in Chorzow, Poland on Friday. Chopra sent his spear to 90.23m at the Doha Diamond League though he had to settle for a second-place finish after German Julian Weber produced a 91.06m effort in his last attempt to upstage the Indian. It was also Weber’s maiden 90m throw. Weber, an European champion in 2022 and silver-medallist in 2024, will be there in Poland too along with two-time world champion Anderson Peters (PB: 93.07m) of Grenada, who finished third in Doha with a throw of 84m. Polish national record holder Marcin Krukowski (PB: 89.55m) and compatriots Cyprian Mrzyglod (PB: 84.97m) and Dawid Wegner (PB: 82.21m), Andrian Mardare (86.66m) of Moldova and Ukraine’s Artur Felfner (PB: 84.32m) complete the eight-man field. “Just the beginning” – Neeraj Chopra shares pic with physio, coach after 90m throw

The reigning men’s javelin throw world champion Neeraj Chopra shared a picture with his coach Jan Zelenzy and physio Ishaan Marwaha just days after his historic 90m throw at the 2025 Diamond League meet in Doha. Chopra had set the national record and become the first Indian javelin throw to hit the elusive 90m mark with a throw of 90.23m in Doha. The effort put to rest long standing questions on his ability to touch the 90m mark, which separates the greats of the sport from the rest. Chopra himself had on multiple occasions expressed his desire to touch the mark over the years. Sharing a picture with his close knit team of Zelenzy and Marwaha, Neeraj wrote: “Happy to finally achieve the 90m mark at the Doha DL.” “A big thank you to the Indian supporters in the stadium for their encouragement, and to those watching and praying from home. “Grateful to my coach, Jan Zelezny and physio Ishaan Marwaha for their constant support. This is just the beginning,” he added. Chopra parted ways …

The 90m club in men’s javelin: As Neeraj Chopra breaks barrier, a breakdown of an elite club in athletics | Sport-others News

Late Friday night in Doha at the Diamond League, the rather exclusive 90m club in men’s javelin throw found not one, but two entrants. First, off his third attempt, India’s Neeraj Chopra achieved a long-standing dream. He had been knocking on the door for ages but finally he broke it down with a mammoth 90.23m throw to become the 25th man in history to achieve the feat. But there was to be another late twist. Germany’s Julian Weber got ticket No 26 into the list, throwing 91.06m and pipping Neeraj to the title. The organisers of the event called it “one of the greatest javelin competitions of all time.” Here are a few interesting nuggets about the 90m club: Jan in a league of his own The 90m mark in men’s javelin (800g) has been breached a total of 129 times in history by 26 different athletes, considering of course the one best throw in any given event. Neeraj Chopra has found path to 90m. Now, it’s down to what he does best: Remain consistent | Sport-others News

Ever the seeker, Neeraj Chopra was already looking expectantly towards the future as everyone around him was revelling in the present. Not for him the outpouring of emotions, a big sigh or any over-the-top celebrations after doing what no other Indian, and only 24 men globally before him, had done: make the javelin travel more than 90m. 90.23, to be exact. He might have broken the National Record — and the internet — but when, after Friday night’s Diamond League duel, he was enthusiastically asked where this would feature in his long list of achievements, Chopra looked bemused. ‘Achievement?’ he mumbled. There was relief that the 90m questions — an irritant he could do without — would now stop. Beyond that, he was reluctant to read more into it. To him, breaching the hallowed mark was not an end. It was only the start. “Raasta mil gaya hai nabbe metre ka (I have unlocked the path to 90m),” he told RevSportz. Neeraj Chopra joins the 90M 𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐁 🔥 👏 🇮🇳 Neeraj Chopra finally broke the …

Neeraj Chopra’s decade-long journey to the historic 90m mark

Neeraj Chopra’s decade-long journey to the historic 90m mark

Indian athletes delivered an exceptional performance, shattering two national records at the Doha Diamond League in Qatar on Friday. Neeraj Chopra, India’s premier athlete, once again led the nation’s charge by not only breaking the national record but also breaching the long-elusive 90m mark in the men’s javelin throw. With this feat, Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to reach this milestone and only the third Asian ever to do so, after Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan and Chao-Tsun Cheng of Chinese Taipei. However, reaching the 90m mark was no simple feat. Neeraj waited almost a decade for this moment but never lost faith in himself, despite public doubts. Here, The Bridge sheds light on his journey to becoming a 90m thrower: 2016 – 86.48m – Junior World Champion Neeraj Chopra came into the limelight in 2016 when he became the first Indian to win a U20 World Championship with a world junior record of 86.48m. This was also a new national record and marked the first time an Indian crossed the 85m mark. However, he …

Neeraj Chopra after breaking the 90m barrier

Neeraj Chopra finally crossed the long-awaited 90m barrier in the javelin, recording a massive 90.23m throw at the Doha Diamond League 2025. While the mark was a personal and national milestone, Chopra had to settle for second place behind Germany’s Julian Weber, who clinched victory with a last-ditch 91.06m throw. Despite narrowly missing the top podium spot, Chopra was content and confident. “I am very happy with the 90m mark, but it’s a little bit of a bittersweet experience actually,” he said after the event. With this throw, the 27-year-old became just the third Asian and the 25th athlete in the world to breach the 90m mark, a feat made even more satisfying considering the groin issues that have plagued him over recent years are now nearly behind him. Having trained under Czech legend Jan Zelezny since February, Chopra believes that more big throws are on the horizon. “We started working together only in February this year. I am still learning things,” Chopra explained. “He doesn’t normally go to the Diamond Leagues, but he came …

From junior world record in 2016 to 90m+ in 2025 at Doha Diamond League

Neeraj Chopra finally breached the elusive 90m frontier with a 90.23m throw but was just pipped at the post by Germany’s Julian Weber in a dramatic men’s javelin contest at the Doha leg of Diamond League on Friday. The 27-year-old double Olympic medallist Indian sent his spear to 90.23m in his third attempt to join a list of javelin throwers, led by his current coach Jan Zelezny of Czechia, who had recorded 90m-plus efforts. He became the third Asian and 25th overall to achieve the feat. But Weber’s sensational last throw of 91.06m. Still, it was a night that Neeraj can remember for a long time as a dream was finally achieved. As Neeraj goes past the 90m for the first time, here’s a look at the throws that have defined his glittering career so far. 86.48m: World U20 Championships, Bydgoszcz (POL)23 JUL 2016 In an interview before Paris 2024, Neeraj had said that the only throw that he had been satisfied till date was the 86.48m in the World Under-20 Championships 2016. “That was …

Neeraj Chopra’s 90m dream achieved: On ‘bittersweet’ night, Neeraj hopes it is just the beginning for bigger throws | Sport-others News

A wry smile, a shake of the head, and a side embrace with his fellow competitors. There wouldn’t be a more muted, low-key celebration to any sporting accomplishment than this, let alone when an athlete joins an exclusive club that only a couple of dozen were a part of before Friday night. Indeed, Neeraj Chopra roared and raised his arms in the trademark fashion as he launched the javelin into Doha’s night sky. But that he always does. The difference this time — on this balmy evening with the temperature in the low 30s and very little wind — was that the spear flew and kept flying. By the time it returned to earth, crashing into the other end of the arena, the javelin had travelled the farthest Neeraj — or any other Indian, for that matter — had ever thrown — 90.23m. Three years after coming within 6cm of the 90m mark, Neeraj finally breached the barrier at the Doha leg of the Diamond League on Friday night. The landmark throw came on his …

Neeraj, who has won the Olympic gold as well as silver medal, never breached the 90m mark before this event. The celebrated Indian athlete’s previous best was 89.94m at the Stockholm Diamond League 2022. Neeraj scripted history by becoming the first Indian athlete to achieve the feat as he came up with a 90.23m throw on his third attempt. However, it was not enough as Germany’s Julian Weber claimed the top spot with a 91.06m throw. It turned out to be a magical night for India’s golden boy as Chopra achieved something that fans and pundits have been waiting years to witness, breaking the fabled 90-metre barrier in javelin throw, eventually finishing second in the Doha Diamond League meet on Friday.
