Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Tuesday stepped up his criticism of the Election Commission, saying there were “serious and shocking” errors in the draft voter lists for municipal corporations in Maharashtra, especially for the BMC polls. He demanded that the Election Commission extend the time allowed for people to file objections and corrections.Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Thackeray said his party has checked the draft lists ward by ward and found large gaps, incorrect entries and repeated names. The former Maharashtra minister said that while the Election Commission said there were 11 lakh names repeated, the actual repeats marked in the lists crossed 14 lakh. He said many people were incorrectly marked as repeats simply because they had common Marathi names, even though they were different individuals.
