AAP writes to Rajya Sabha Secretariat to remove Raghav Chadha as deputy leader

File. | Photo Credit: Sansad TV via PTI The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday (April 2, 2026) submitted a letter to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to appoint MP Ashok Mittal as Deputy Leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha, replacing MP Raghav Chadha, according to party sources. According to sources quoted by PTI, the letter also states that Mr. Chadha — who is also a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab — should not be allotted time for speaking in the House from the AAP’s quota. Mr. Mittal is a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab. He was elected to the House in April 2022 and, since then, has been a part of several parliamentary committees, including the Committee on Defence and the Committee on Finance. He was also a part of an all-party delegation, led by DMK MP Kanimozhi, which visited Russia, Latvia, Slovenia, Greece, and Spain after the Pahalgam terror attack last year. He was speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the discussion on the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak-2024. He also expressed concern over the predatory pricing and duopoly in the aviation sector. Raising questions on the success of the UDAN scheme, he emphasised the shutdown of several airlines which he said is undermining its goal of affordable travel. Chadha also pointed out the long queues, poor services and overpriced food at the airports. He said that airports have become worse than bus stops as overcrowding often leads to long queues due to which passengers miss their flights. The AAP MP asserted that many tourist destinations in the country lack airports and thus have poor connectivity.
