Thirteen Indian seafarers are among the 15 crew members stranded aboard a cargo vessel at Ukraine’s Chornomorsk port, where ongoing drone and missile attacks near the strategic Black Sea harbour have raised serious safety concerns, according to the Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI). A 42-year-old passenger travelling on the Kolkata-Jammu Tawi Express was shot dead by an unidentified assailant inside the train’s S-2 coach in the early hours of Monday, police said. Representational image. The deceased was identified as Dinesh Shah, a resident of the Barchaki area in Pipariya in Bihar’s Gaya district. He was travelling to Naimisharanya Dham in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district on board train number 13151, police said. According to officials, Shah was travelling in the S-2 coach, while his sister, her two children and her mother-in-law were travelling in the general compartment of the same train. Police said the incident took place around 1.40am, shortly after the train crossed Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction. Just before the train reached Block Hut-B, near the restroom area of the coach, an unidentified person allegedly shot Shah. Passengers who heard the gunshot alerted the train staff, triggering panic inside the coach. The train reached Varanasi Junction at around 2.42am, where Shah’s body was taken off the train. New Delhi: A Chinese national, suspected to be a member of an organised global in-flight theft syndicate, has been arrested for allegedly stealing debit and credit cards from fellow passengers during a flight from Hong Kong to New Delhi, police said on Saturday. The accused, 30-year-old Benlai Pan, was arrested upon arrival at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here on May 14 following complaints from multiple passengers aboard Air India flight AI-315, they said in an official statement. Pan was travelling with three other Chinese nationals — 51-year-old Meng Guangyang, 42-year-old Chang Mang, 45-year-old and Liu Jie — all of whom were detained and questioned, officials said. According to authorities, the group is suspected to be operating together as part of an international in-flight theft racket. “Air India’s security team alerted the IGI Airport police about suspicious activities involving four Chinese nationals on the flight.
