Pune Moshi waste unit collapse: National panels seek PCMC report in 15 days

The Moshi Waste-to-Energy Plant tragedy has come under the scanner of two national statutory bodies, with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) and the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) taking serious cognisance of the incident and seeking detailed reports from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and other authorities. The commissions have issued notices directing the concerned authorities to submit comprehensive reports within 15 days, raising questions over safety standards, accountability and the circumstances that led to the fatal incident. According to the notice issued by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on July 13, the Commission received a petition from Advocate Sagar Ratan Charan and decided to initiate an inquiry under the powers conferred on it under Article 338 of the Constitution of India. Notices have been served to the PCMC Commissioner and the Commissioner of Social Welfare, Maharashtra, directing them to furnish details of the action taken on the allegations within 15 days. At least eight people were killed and 21 others injured after a sleeper bus collided with a trailer and caught fire on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district in the early hours of Wednesday. Narrow escape for 30 passengers after bus overturns in Beed`s Kanifnath Ghat

Around 30 passengers travelling on a private bus had a narrow escape after the vehicle overturned on a hilly road in Maharashtra`s Beed district during the early hours of Saturday, reported the PTI. Police said the accident occurred at around 4 am in the Kanifnath Ghat section of Ashti tehsil while the bus was travelling from Pune to Nanded. According to officials, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp bend on the ghat road. The bus veered off its path and overturned on the roadside, causing panic among passengers, many of whom were asleep when the accident took place. Rescue operation launched After receiving information about the accident, a team from Ambhora Police Station rushed to the spot. Police personnel, assisted by local residents, immediately launched a rescue operation and helped passengers safely exit the overturned vehicle, according to the PTI. At least two people were killed and 17 others were injured after a minibus overturned onto a motorcycle in Madhya Pradesh`s Khargone district on Monday morning, police said, reported the PTI. Among the deceased were a woman and her 16-year-old daughter, it said.  The accident took place on the Khandwa-Baroda National Highway near Magariya village, under the jurisdiction of Jaitapur Police Station, around 11 kilometres from the district headquarters. According to police, the minibus driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid an oncoming car. The vehicle then overturned onto a motorcycle travelling on the highway, the news agency reported. The victims, identified as Monu (40) and her daughter Anita (16), were riding pillion on the motorcycle and died at the scene. The woman`s husband, who was driving the two-wheeler, suffered injuries in the crash. Uttar Pradesh Police have directed that any accident resulting in three or more deaths be treated on a par with grave offences and probed under a “Special Report Case” (SR case) framework. The order, issued from the DGP headquarters around 10 days ago, requires investigators to conduct a comprehensive, evidence-based inquiry and submit a detailed special report to senior officers. The directive, aimed at reducing road fatalities and fixing accountability, acknowledges that accident cases are often handled as routine matters, leading to gaps in investigation and weak enforcement against offenders.
