IndianOil says fuel supply remains adequate; shortages limited to isolated areas

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IndianOil) on Saturday said there is no overall shortage of petrol or diesel across the country, even as some fuel stations in certain areas reported temporary supply disruptions. The state-run oil marketing company clarified that the issues being witnessed at select retail outlets are localised and short-term in nature, and that fuel stocks across most parts of the country remain stable. IndianOil says disruptions caused by local demand-supply imbalance In an official statement, IndianOil said the temporary supply pressure at some outlets was due to local demand-supply imbalances and shifting customer patterns in certain regions. The company stated that a seasonal increase in diesel demand during the harvesting period has led to higher fuel consumption in several areas. It also pointed to a temporary shift in customers from private fuel pumps to public sector outlets because of comparatively higher retail prices at some private stations. According to the company, institutional and commercial buyers have also increasingly turned to public sector fuel stations as bulk fuel supplies are currently priced higher in …

Image used for representational purposes only. | Photo Credit: Getty Images/iStockphoto Warning that “natural farming “ could reduce crop output by 30%, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella organisation of more than 500 farmers’ outfits, has urged the union government here on Friday to ensure adequate supplies of fertilisers during this Kharif period. The SKM has also decided to hold nationwide protests against the rise in prices of fertilisers, diesel and black marketing. Addressing reporters, the leaders of the SKM said their National Council will meet on June 17, and an All India Convention will be held on July 28 at New Delhi to gear up for “long haul of mass struggles” till achieving crucial demands, including a statutory minimum support price (MSP). The SKM leaders asked farmer unions, peasant organisations and agricultural workers to burn copies of the recent Government order on MSP for the kharif crops in every village. Alleging that the Narendra Modi government is not protecting farmers’ needs of urea and Di Ammonium Phosphate, the SKM said while the Union …

SC says law adequate to punish hate speech, underlines enforcement deficit

Law is adequate to punish hate speech, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday, as it turned down a petition to declare it and rumour mongering as separate offences under the penal code, saying constitutional courts cannot compel the legislature to create laws and underlining the enforcement deficit. The Supreme Court said hate speech and rumour-mongering affect the constitutional ideal of fraternity. (HT PHOTO) “Creation of criminal offences lies within the legislative domain. The judiciary cannot create new offences in keeping with the separation of powers under the Constitution,” said a bench of justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. Advocate and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay filed a petition in 2021 seeking the declaration of hate speech as a separate offence. The court has since taken up pleas over hate speech, including during the 2023 Haridwar Dharam Sansad. It has issued interim orders directing police to mandatorily register cases in such matters. Dismissing all petitions in the matter, the bench said they arise not from a deficit in law but in enforcement. “The contention that …

Fuel stations run dry in Shaikpet, with several outlets shut as panic buying amid shortage rumours leaves pumps out of stock in Hyderabad on Monday (April 27, 2026) | Photo Credit: SIDDHANT THAKUR Nearly a month after panic buying disrupted fuel supplies in Hyderabad, long queues of vehicles spilled over into traffic on main roads, and temporary closures were again witnessed at several petrol pumps across the city on the morning of Monday, (April 27, 2026) as outlets struggled to cope with a sudden surge in demand. At a Bharat Petroleum outlet in the Shaikpet area, heavy crowds were seen as early as 9 a.m., with two-wheelers and cars lining up beyond the premises and onto adjoining roads. Employees soon began restricting entry, and within an hour, the station stopped allowing additional vehicles. Several nearby pumps followed a similar approach, and by around 10.30 a.m., most outlets in the area had temporarily shut operations citing low stock. Military supplies from Israel may be delayed, have adequate stocks for current year: HAL CMD | India News

MILITARY SUPPLIES from Israel may experience delays due to the ongoing conflict with Iran, but India has sufficient stocks to meet its needs for the current year, said D K Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, on Thursday. He said he is hopeful that the issue will be addressed once the war ends. He also said drawing from the lessons of the ongoing conflict, HAL has put its weight behind CATS Warrior — a low-observable unmanned combat aerial vehicle — that it is developing. “What has happened is, because of the bombardment from Iran, the plants (in Israel) have shut down, so there will be a delay. We have enough stocks for the current year; I hope that it (Israel) will catch up. Once this war peters out, things will come back to normal,” Sunil told The Indian Express on the sidelines of a media interaction. Over the last decade, India has purchased a range of military equipment and weapons from Israel including missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, sensors and radars, air defence …

The government on Tuesday reaffirmed that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available in all 100,000 petrol pumps across the country and the 1.1 million migrant workers having gas connection under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana are getting fuel on priority with other 105.6 million Ujjwala beneficiaries. (Adani Port) Giving update on fuel supply situation, Sujata Sharma, joint secretary in the petroleum ministry said while all petrol pumps in the country are sufficiently stocked with auto fuels, availabilities of LPG for priority consumers are ensured by ramping up its production in refineries at the cost of petrochemicals output so that priority customers do not suffer. India is the fourth largest refining hub of the world with over 258 million tonnes per annum refining capacity. By changing refining configuration, refiners can ramp-up output of any particular product to some extent. Apart from domestic LPG, India also imports LPG from various sources to meet domestic demands. …
