Uttarakhand MLA Adesh Chauhan convicted in 2009 illegal detention case | India News

A BJP MLA from Uttarakhand has been convicted by a CBI court in Dehradun in connection with a case of illegal detention in police custody that dates back to 2009. The CBI court handed down the judgment against Adesh Chauhan, from Haridwar’s BHEL Ranipur, his niece Deepika Singh, and two police officers for allegedly detaining the woman’s father-in-law in a case in 2009. The BJP leader has been sentenced to six months but has been allowed bail. Chauhan has been a legislator since 2012. In 2009, Dheer Singh Chauhan, the father-in-law of Adesh’s niece Deepika Chauhan, was allegedly kept in illegal detention for 36 hours and intimidated to face a “false dowry case”. Dheer Singh Chauhan was allegedly asked to transfer Rs 5 lakh, his agricultural land, and house in Roorkee to Deepika, according to the arguments in the case.
