Congress leader Manickam Tagore on Friday raised concerns in the Lok Sabha over the commercial LPG crisis, calling for an urgent discussion in the House. He moved an adjournment motion, saying the price hike was affecting both the public and the economy. In a letter to the House, Tagore said, “The recent hike in commercial LPG cylinder rates by 30-40 per cent has sent shockwaves across the nation, causing panic among the people. Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Friday following unabated protests by opposition members over various issues. Friday was the second day when the House could not take up discussion on the Union Budget presented on February 1. As the House reassembled at 12 noon after an earlier adjournment, opposition members continued with their protests by trooping into the Well of the House. Chairing the proceedings, Krishna Prasad Tenneti urged opposition to take their seats and put down placards. As opposition members refused to relent, he adourned the House till Monday. Earlier Speaker Om Birla lamenting that he cannot run “such a House”. The speaker noted that 19 hours and 13 minutes have been wasted due to disruptions in the current session and said members are disrespecting the House. Ahead of the commencement of the winter session of Parliament, Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Manickam Tagore has announced that he intends to move an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha to raise the issue of the indictment of industrialist Gautam Adani. In a letter addressed to the Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Tagore, who also serves as the whip for the Congress party in the lower house, gave formal notice of his intention to seek permission for an adjournment motion. He requested that the business of the house be suspended in order to discuss the urgent matter concerning the charges levelled against the Adani Group. The letter highlighted the indictment of Adani by United States authorities over allegations of “bribery, securities fraud, and wire fraud”. Shamseer sternly declined to entertain the Opposition’s adjournment notice seeking the leave of the House to debate a Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) enquiry against the now-dormant IT company owned by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter, T. Veena. Mr. Shamseer’s stringent ruling that Rule 53 of the Kerala Assembly’s Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business precluded any discussion on a subject under the consideration of the judiciary or a statutory body with investigative powers drew a vociferous protest from the UDF. No Further Adjournment in Shibu Soren’s Plea Against Lokpal Proceedings on Corruption Complaint: HC

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday made it clear that further adjournment shall not be granted on a petition by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren, who has challenged the proceedings initiated against him by the Lokpal on the basis of a complaint by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. During the hearing, a lawyer representing Soren said the filing advocate, Vaibhav Tomar, had sought an adjournment due to personal difficulties in appearing before the court. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Lokpal of India, opposed the request for adjournment. Taking note that Soren’s counsel was not available and seeking adjournment, Justice Prathiba M Singh listed the matter for further hearing on February 8, 2023, and made it clear that no further adjournments shall be granted in the case. In November, the Lokpal had told the high court that it is well within its rights to initiate an inquiry against Soren in his plea against the Lokpal’s notice in a disproportionate assets case directing a preliminary inquiry by CBI.
