Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has directed officials to initiate action against those responsible for installing unauthorised advertisements within BBMP limits. Speaking at a meeting held on Monday at the BBMP head office to discuss various issues, Mr. Nath emphasised the need for strict measures to curb illegal advertisements across the city. His directions comes after The Hindu reported on gaps in implementation of the blanket ban on advertisements.  He instructed officials to identify unauthorised advertisements in all eight zones under BBMP’s jurisdiction and ensure their immediate removal. Furthermore, legal action, including filing of complaints, must be initiated against violators, he said. Meta Platforms will begin test launching ads on its social media platform Threads with a few brands in the U.S. and Japan, it said on Friday, as the app hits over 300 million monthly active users. During early testing starting Friday, image ads will appear in the Threads home feed, placed between content posts for a small percentage of users, Meta said in a blog. The social media giant said it will monitor the test closely before scaling it broadly, adding that businesses will be able to extend their existing Meta ad campaigns to Threads. Meta will also begin testing an inventory filter for ads in Threads, which enabled through AI, allows advertisers to control the sensitivity level of the organic content their ads appear next to. “The launch of Threads ads just weeks after Meta’s content moderation makeover will raise advertiser eyebrows. District Collectors asked to remove advertisements on Highway roads

K. Kathirmathiyon, secretary of Coimbatore Consumer Cause, said the directive was issued based on the consumer body raising the issue with the Department. According to him, Highways Secretary R. Selvaraj emphasised a Government Order dated December 29, 2016, prohibiting advertisement boards within highways boundaries and medians, and mandated cancellation of permissions already granted. Mr. Kathirmathiyon said that such boards have popped up on roads, violating the norms set by the Indian Road Congress. While the Union Government has banned such advertisements on its roads, the State government mandates that the Highways Department should issue a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to place the advertisements. However, the advertisements were permitted without the NOC. The consumer organisation recently wrote to the Department saying that it would take legal recourse …

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed penalties on three prominent coaching institutes for allegedly advertising misleading claims about the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam (CSE) results for 2022 and 2023. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution reported on Thursday that Vajirao & Reddy Institute and StudyIQ IAS were each fined Rs 7 lakh. Meanwhile, Edge IAS faced a penalty of Rs 1 lakh for similar offences. In addition to the financial penalties, the CCPA has ordered the institutes to cease publishing these misleading advertisements immediately. These actions are taken to protect and promote the rights of consumers and to ensure that no false or misleading advertisements are made for any goods or services that contravene the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The CCPA, led by Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare and Commissioner Anupam Mishra, directed the institutes to cease misleading advertisements immediately, stating consumer rights and adherence to the Consumer Protection …

The BCCI said in a statement that it has recently come across fraudulent advertisements promising aspiring cricketers admission into the NCA. “The BCCI wishes to clarify that it does not charge any money from cricketers to use its facility. The BCCI has its set of protocols, and entry into the NCA is a merit-based process,” read a statement issued by the board’s secretary Jay Shah. The cricket board made it clear that the facilities at NCA are not open for all. “The NCA is open to only BCCI’s contracted players, players in the targeted group, and cricketers recommended by state associations.
