Rashid Khan unlikely to feature in Afghanistan’s one-off Test vs India: ‘There is no target in Test cricket’ | Cricket News

3 min readApr 9, 2026 05:29 PM IST Rashid Khan remains non-committal about featuring in Afghanistan’s one-off Test against India that is scheduled to be played in Mullanpur in June after the Indian Premier League (IPL). The star spinner said that he was advised by his doctor to stay away from red-ball cricket to prolong his career in the sport and that, along with the fact that Afghanistan don’t play in the World Test Championship, has resulted in him having to put Test cricket on the backburner. “It’s a little difficult in red ball, because that was the first thing which was told to me by the doctor, ‘You have to stay away from red ball.’ But I still played a Test against Zimbabwe,” Rashid told reporters after starring in Gujarat Titan’s one-run win over Delhi Capitals in the IPL on Thursday. Rashid had been diagnosed with a back injury before the 2023 World Cup and since then, he has had to ration his appearances in Test cricket. Rashid last played in a Test against …

Rashid Khan on Afghanistan’s World Cup exit: ‘We faced two top teams in four days’ | Cricket News

Rashid Khan on Afghanistan’s World Cup exit: ‘We faced two top teams in four days’ | Cricket News

Afghanistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup, following consecutive defeats to New Zealand and South Africa, has left captain Rashid Khan reflecting on what might have been. The team’s campaign in the so-called “Group of Death”—which also included Canada and the UAE—was always going to be an uphill battle, with at least one of the tournament’s heavyweights destined for an early exit. Unlike the 2024 edition, where Afghanistan defied expectations to reach their first-ever semi-final after navigating a group featuring West Indies and New Zealand, this year’s tournament offered no such fairytale. With their final group match against Canada in Chennai on Thursday, Rashid Khan opened up about the unique pressures of starting the competition against two of the world’s best teams in quick succession. The challenge of a tough draw “This campaign was different,” Rashid admitted. “We had to play New Zealand and South Africa in just four days. There’s no room for error; any mistake, and you’re out. In T20 cricket, if you slip up, it’s very hard to come back. To …

Azmatullah Omarzai’s all-round heroics prove he’s Afghanistan’s go-to man in victory over UAE

Azmatullah Omarzai’s all-round heroics prove he’s Afghanistan’s go-to man in victory over UAE

4 min readNew DelhiFeb 16, 2026 05:09 PM IST For years, as Afghanistan rose through the ranks of international cricket from plucky upstarts to competitive mainstays, spin duo Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi have shouldered the responsibility of being this team’s principal match-winners. But as Nabi – now 41, a veteran of multiple decades, plying his trade in a franchise alongside his son – arrived at the crease at the Feroz Shah Kotla grounds in New Delhi on Monday with Afghanistan in a sticky situation, Azmatullah Omarzai made it known that he is ready to step up. Shrugging his shoulders at the advice from his senior, the 25-year-old gestured with his hands that the game is theirs until he is in the middle, and then took his side over the line. With the UAE threatening to pull off an upset, having scored a par 160 and picked up regular wickets to leave the more pedigreed side needing 28 from the last 18 balls, Omarzai proved why he is now Afghanistan’s most valuable white-ball player. Having …

Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi fined 15% & handed a demerit point for ICC code of conduct breach during South Africa clash

2 min readUpdated: Feb 12, 2026 06:11 PM IST Veteran Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the T20 World Cup 2026 Group D match against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. In a statement released on Thursday, the ICC confirmed that Nabi was found to have violated Article 2.4, which relates to “Disobeying an Umpire’s instruction during an International Match.” The incident occurred at the start of the 14th over of Afghanistan’s innings, when Nabi engaged in a prolonged argument with the umpires regarding South African bowler Lungi Ngidi’s wrist band. In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to Nabi’s disciplinary record. It is his first offence within a 24-month period. According to the ICC, Nabi admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by David Gilbert of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, meaning a formal hearing was not required. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and …

T20 World Cup: Baz-inspired Tim Seifert’s 65 off 42 neutralises Afghanistan’s menacing Mujeeb-ur-Rahman as Kiwis canter to victory | Cricket News

5 min readFeb 8, 2026 06:08 PM IST The Olympics or the World Cup? It’s a question that Tim Seifert had asked himself a thousand times. In college, his numbers glowed in both hockey and cricket. He racked up goals with as much ease as he ferried the leather ball into the distant corners of a cricket ground. After several rounds of deliberations, he chose cricket, the decision influenced as much by his father Marty as by his sporting idol Brendon McCullum. The wicketkeeper-batsman was not to rue the decision, as he soon became one of the most sought-after names in the franchise-cricket circuit. In Chennai, his fireworks reduced a treacherous chase into a casual stroll with his 65 off 42 as New Zealand swamped Afghanistan’s total of 182 for 6 in 17.5 overs with five wickets in hand. The win gives breathing space for the Black Caps in the perceived group of death, with South Africa in the mix, alongwith Canada and UAE. Watching McCullum’s batting videos is his biggest stress-buster before games. When …

T20 World Cup | Gulbadin Naib: Afghanistan’s bicep-flexing endurer, steps into new role and carries his team’s batting like the mythical Hercules | Cricket News

5 min readChennaiFeb 8, 2026 05:07 PM IST A teenager with scattered stubble is flexing his biceps in every frame. He wears a gruff expression. The eyes are cold, but the gaze is piercing. This was Gulbadin Naib in Tim Albone’s documentary ‘Out of the Ashes’, on the rise of Afghanistan cricket. Naib was then an aspiring cricketer, raised in the crammed refugee camps in Peshawar, where he and his family fought for basic needs, but where he also picked up the sport. By then, he had returned to his hometown Puli Alam, in the Logar province, where his father set up a fruit stall. Sixteen years later, through a career of grit and granite, the bicep-flex image defines him. It is so popular that when he completed his half-century against New Zealand, pulling his side out of a defensive hole, some in the stands rolled up their sleeves and swirled their biceps. In this instance, Naib did not. He raised both his arms towards the dressing room and waved at the applauding crowd. He …

Afghanistan appointed Noor Ahmed Noor at its Embassy in Delhi. (Image: X) Nearly five years after the Taliban seized control of Kabul, the Afghan government appointed diplomat Noor Ahmed Noor to its embassy in New Delhi. The Taliban-appointed diplomat has arrived in Delhi to assume duties as Charge d’Affaires. His appointment was finalised following a visit by Taliban Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi to Delhi in October 2025, during which he met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Noor had accompanied Mottaqi during that visit and also travelled with him to the Darul Uloom madrassa in Deoband. In December 2025, Noor visited Dhaka, where he reportedly met several Islamist leaders ahead of Bangladesh’s February 12 elections. Although Noor serves as Director General of the First Political Division of the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul, officials said he is yet to submit …
