Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini Sunday announced a 10% hike in reservation for Agniveers in state police jobs, taking the total reservation to 20%. Making the announcement, Saini said Haryana has become the first state to secure the future of Agniveers by reserving jobs for them after their service period. Chairing a review meeting on providing reservation in jobs to Agniveers, the CM said a separate portal would be created for Agniveers to register themselves. He said Agniveers who want to become self-employed will also be provided loans at affordable rates. Agniveers wanting to serve as private security personnel will be given priority in providing gun licences, the CM said. Two Agniveers were killed when a shell from an Indian field gun exploded during firing practice at the Artillery Centre in Maharashtra`s Nashik district, police said on Friday. The incident occurred at the Artillery Centre in the Nashik Road area on Thursday afternoon, an officer said. Agniveers Gohil Vishwaraj Singh, 20, and Saifat Shit, 21, were killed in the blast, he added. A team of Agniveers was firing an Indian field gun when one of the shells exploded, reported news agency PTI. The duo sustained injuries and were taken to MH Hospital, Deolali, where they were pronounced dead, the officer said. The Army is conducting an internal survey on the Agnipath scheme to assess its impact on its recruitment process so far, based on which it is likely to draw up recommendations for the incoming government on possible changes to the scheme, The Indian Express has learnt. Familes Of Agniveers Killed in Action Should Get Regular Soldiers’ Benefits: Panel

The Agnipath recruitment scheme was rolled out in 2022. New Delhi: Families of Agniveers dying in the line of duty should get the same benefits that are extended to those of regular military personnel, a parliamentary panel has recommended. Under the existing provisions, families of Agniveers who die in the line of duty are not eligible for regular benefits like pension. “Considering the plight of family members/next of kin, the Committee desire after martyrdom of an Agniveer, the same benefits should be provided to their family members that are provided to the family of a regular soldier,” the Parliamentary Standing Committee On Defence said in its latest report. In June 2022, the government rolled out the Agnipath recruitment scheme for short-term induction of personnel with an aim to bring down the age profile of the three services. It provides for recruiting youths between the age bracket of 17 and half years and 21 for four years with a provision to retain 25 per cent of them for 15 more years.
