Pilots' body challenges AI171 crash findings, cites electrical failure theory

Pilots' body challenges AI171 crash findings, cites electrical failure theory

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has challenged the official explanation behind the crash of Air India Flight AI 171, claiming that fresh simulator tests suggest a major electrical failure and not deliberate action by the pilots that may have caused the disaster, as per IANS. Addressing a press conference, FIP President Captain C.S. Randhawa alleged that investigators overlooked critical technical evidence and excluded experienced aviation experts from key parts of the investigation. Official report blamed pilot actions The government’s interim report into the June 12, 2025 crash near Ahmedabad airport had concluded that the flight crew manually cut off fuel to the aircraft’s engines, leading to a loss of power shortly after take-off. According to the report, the aircraft’s ram air turbine (RAT) — an emergency backup power system — deployed four seconds after the fuel supply was cut. Simulator tests raise questions However, the pilots’ federation said it recently carried out simulator tests using the same weight, balance and weather conditions as the ill-fated flight. According to Randhawa, the results do not match …

In an interim statement issued on Friday, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) said the probe into the June 12 crash had made “significant progress”, while cautioning against speculation as the investigation continues. The Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft, operating from Ahmedabad to London, crashed shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on June 12 last year, killing 260 onboard. AAIB expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy and acknowledged the pain suffered by those affected. The bureau said the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017, and the standards prescribed under ICAO Annex 13. Air India crash, a year later. Two men and a phone call from London: ‘Kaise ho aap?’ | Long Reads News

For the last one year, that’s how almost every voice text, every call from Omar Ali to Savdhanbhai Chaudhary has begun. It’s a daily reassurance Savdhanbhai and his wife Ratniben have hung on to since June 12, 2025, when the Ahmedabad-Gatwick Boeing 787 Dreamliner carrying their elder son Kamlesh and his bride Dhapuben crashed minutes after takeoff, killing 241 of the 242 passengers on board. Over the grief-stricken days that followed, 40-year-old Omar Ali, Kamlesh’s Pakistani co-worker at a fancy goods store in London, and Savdhanbhai, a 48-year-old farmer in Thavar, a village in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, struck an unlikely bond. Every day on his way to work, Omar Ali would call Savdhanbhai to talk — regular, everyday conversations about the weather, Savdhanbhai’s infected toe nail, the cluster beans he had eaten for lunch (“guar… what is it, what does it look like?”), Omar’s clean-shaven look. The calls and text messages have come without fail, every single day. “Hamein zara sa nakhoon me bhi dard hota hai toh Omar poochta hai (Omar calls and asks …

Scrutiny mounts on AAIB as 2023 crash report stuck| India News

New Delhi : The civil aviation ministry’s 2024-25 annual report states that of 104 accidents, investigations into 91 had been completed by December 31, 2024, with 88 final reports made public. As per International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) norms, investigations such as these require a final report within a year of the incident. Among the delayed AAIB reports is that of a 2023 runway accident involving VSR Aviation, the firm from which Ajit Pawar chartered the Learjet 45 that crashed on Wednesday. (File photo/Bloomberg) HT looked back at Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) final reports and found that among the delayed reports is that of a September 2023 runway accident involving VSR Aviation, the company from which Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar chartered the Learjet 45 that crashed on Wednesday, killing him and four others. The delay has raised questions about AAIB’s capacity, but more critically, experts said the missing findings could have determined if VSR Aviation required stricter oversight long before the Baramati crash. “It is still unclear whether the 2023 incident was …
