Microsoft goes full agentic at Build 2025 with new AI tools, from Copilot coding agent to Discovery | Technology News

Microsoft hosted its annual developer conference, Microsoft Build, on May 19, announcing a slew of updates. The latest edition of Microsoft Build saw Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella share how the tech giant is building the open agentic web, where AI agents interact, make decisions, and perform tasks for individuals, teams and companies. The company’s new updates will shape the software development lifecycle with AI, essentially making it easier to build more capable and secure AI agents, accelerate scientific discovery, and advance open standards and shared infrastructure and protocols. “Today, at Build, we showed you how we are building the open agentic web. It is reshaping every layer of the stack, and our goal is to help every dev build apps and agents that empower people and orgs everywhere,” Nadella said in his post on X. Here is a list of some of the biggest announcements from this year’s Microsoft Build. GitHub Copilot coding agent “We are taking GitHub Copilot from being a pair programmer to peer programmer. DataStax CTO Discusses RAG’s Role in Reducing AI Hallucinations

Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) has become essential for IT leaders and enterprises looking to implement generative AI. By using a large language model (LLM) and RAG, enterprises can ground an LLM in enterprise data, improving the accuracy of outputs. But how does RAG work? What are the use cases for RAG? And are there any real alternatives? TechRepublic sat down with Davor Bonaci, chief technology officer and executive vice president at database and AI company DataStax, to find out how RAG is being leveraged in the market during the rollout of generative AI in 2024 and what he sees as the technology’s next step in 2025. What is Retrieval Augmented Generation? RAG is a technique that improves the relevance and accuracy of generative AI LLM model outputs by adding extended or augmented context from an enterprise. It allows IT leaders to use generative AI LLMs for enterprise use cases. Bonaci explained that while LLMs have “basically been trained on all the information available on the internet,” up to a certain cut-off date, depending on the …

Meta challenges OpenAI’s Sora with Movie Gen video model: What is it?

Meta seems to be leaving no stone unturned in its bid to dominate the AI landscape. On Friday, the Mark Zuckerberg-led tech giant announced that it had created a new AI model named Movie Gen which can generate realistic video and audio clips in response to prompts. The company claims that it can rival some of the most capable AI video tools from the likes of OpenAI and ElevenLabs. This development comes months after OpenAI introduced its video model Sora to the world. Even though Sora is not yet out in public, demos shared by OpenAI created a frenzy on the internet especially owing to its hyperrealistic footage and motion that seemed straight out of Hollywood. What is Movie Gen? Meta’s Movie Gen generates videos with the help of text inputs and it can even edit existing footage or still images. Reportedly, the audio added to the video is also generated by AI and this is in sync with the visual. Meta’s AI model also allows users to generate videos in different aspect ratios. “Our …
