Shanmugam stayed away from the official review meeting for his Villupuram district and former Food Minister R. Kamaraj made it to the event in Tiruvarur. Mr. Shanmugam’s decision was in line with the stand taken by many of his colleagues such as Natham R. Viswanathan, P. Thangamani, and S.P. Velumani. About 10 days ago, a few other members of the camp, including Leema Rose Martin and G. Hari, took part in the review sessions for their respective districts of Tiruchi and Tiruvallur. In a letter addressed to the party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the former Minister, who was the secretary of the literary wing in the party and a spokesperson, said the party had lost “individuality” by “seeking to compromise itself with the DMK.” It had also “deviated from the path” towards victory. Mr. Vaigaichelvan, who defeated former Minister and the DMK’s senior leader from the Virudhunagar district K.K..S.S.R Ramachandran in Aruppukottai in 2011, contended that despite not being given ticket to contest in 2026, he had campaigned for the party. Former AIADMK minister, dissident leader C Vijayabaskar on Tuesday resigned from his MLA post and submitted a letter to Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar. Vijayabaskar was among the AIADMK rebel leaders who voted in favour of the TVK regime in the trust vote held in the Assembly on May 13. The letter of resignation was handwritten by Vijayabaskar, and it was in order and complies with the Assembly Rules and hence it was duly accepted, Prabhakar said in an official release.
