3 min readMumbaiJul 10, 2026 10:45 PM IST In another major blow to the opposition in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), two more elected corporators lost their candidature after the state government’s caste scrutiny committee invalidated their caste certificates that were submitted during the election registration process earlier in January this year. Roshan Shaikh from the AIMIM was elected from Mumbai’s ward number 138 in the Govandi-Mankhurd area. Shaikh is the second corporator to lose candidature from AIMIM. Earlier on June 22, AIMIM candidate — Sameer Ramzan Patel, who was elected from the neighbouring ward number 137 was suspended on similar grounds. Now with two councillors losing their candidature in ward numbers 137 and 138, two neighbouring wards in Mumbai’s marginalised M east ward are set to run without any elected representative. Patel has been booked for allegedly harbouring absconding accused Nida Khan, who was later arrested from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. So far, three persons have been arrested in the case, and the Nashik City police last week filed a chargesheet against them. A senior police officer said, “We have issued a summons to Patel to join the investigation and his statement will be recorded.” The officer said Patel’s statement had not been recorded earlier as the police were required to file the chargesheet against the three arrested accused before May 25 to prevent them from becoming eligible for bail. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Nashik Police on Monday summoned AIMIM corporator Mateen Patel from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for questioning in connection with the alleged harassment case linked to Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) Nashik BPO unit, officials said, reported IANS.  Summoned under BNSS provisions Mateen Patel has been summoned for questioning under the relevant Section of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to investigate certain facts related to the case and his alleged assistance to the accused, Nida Khan. Officials said further investigation into the case is currently underway.
