India’s Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar clinched the gold medal with a world record score in a tightly contested men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final at the 2026 Asian Shooting Championships in Delhi on Thursday. Tomar, a two-time Olympian, pipped Niraj Kumar by a mere 0.2 points to be crowned the Asian champion. Trailing by 0.2 ahead of the final shot of the competition, Tomar shot an excellent 10.7 to take his total of 362, a world record. Niraj could only muster a 10.3 with his final shot as he settled for silver. The hosts enjoyed a podium sweep in the event with the experienced Akhil Sheoran finishing third for the bronze medal. He shot 343.5 in the final. Earlier in the day, Niraj had topped the qualification round with a score of 593. Former men’s 10m air rifle world champion Rudkrankksh Patil, who was shooting for Ranking Points Only (RPO), shot 591 to finish second. India’s Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar bettered the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions world record final score at the 2025 National Shooting Championships in Bhopal on Monday. Tomar, a two-time Olympian, shot a brilliant 470.5 to win the gold medal. The score is an impressive 1.7 better than the world record held by China’s Liu Yukun, which stands at 468.9. Tomar’s score, however, won’t stand as the official world record since it wasn’t registered in an ISSF-accredited competition. The 24-year-old from Madhya Pradesh though now has the bragging rights for the national record. As Tomar ran away with the gold medal, Niraj Kumar (463.7) finished a distant second. India’s Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar equalled the qualification world record in men’s 50m rifle 3 positions at the ongoing 2025 ISSF World Championships in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday. Tomar shot a total of 597 to top the qualification round and qualify for the final, which will be held later in the day. The 24-year-old Tomar, a two-time Olympian, was on the money right from the start. He shot a perfect 200 in the kneeling as well as prone position for a score of 400. With a world record in sight, Tomar faltered a little but shot 98 and 99 in the two standing series respectively to equal the world record. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Anjum Moudgil topped the 50m rifle qualification round for the second successive Olympic Trials. They scored 590+ in trial T3 of men’s and women’s 50m 3P rifle events respectively in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. Both Anjum and Aiswary made a strong comeback in their quest to represent India at the Paris Olympics despite a horror show in trial T1. Aishwary shot a combined total of 590(34x) in the qualification round of trial T3 while Swapnil Kusale ended in second position with 587(27x).
