England consider lodging formal complaint after snicko error reprieves Alex Carey on Day 1 of 3rd Ashes Test | Cricket News

England are deliberating on lodging a formal complaint over the Snicko technology being used in this Ashes series after Alex Carey received a lifeline during his invaluable hundred on the opening day of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide. When the wicket-keeper batsman was on 72, and with his team placed precariously on 245 for six, fast bowler Josh Tongue appealed vociferously for a caught behind. The on-field umpire remained unmoved. Tongue implored captain Ben Stokes to review, and upon DRS, a spike was detected. However, the third umpire, Chris Gaffeney, reckoned there was no conclusive proof to overturn the decision. The third umpire’s conclusion was that the spike came before any possible contact on the replay. To aggravate England’s angst, BBG Sports, the company which makes the Snicko technology used for decision reviews in this series, apologised and admitted the error. “The only conclusion that can be drawn from this, is that the Snicko operator at the time must have selected the incorrect stump mic for audio processing. In light of this, BBG Sports …

DRS controversy erupts in Ashes as Alex Carey survives caught-behind appeal, operator takes ‘full responsibility’ while England indicate escalation | Cricket News

England were left fuming at the end of Dayn 1 of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide after Australia’s Alex Carey survived after the “Snicko” review technology failed to pick up an apparent nick off the wicketkeeper-batter’s bat. Carey went on to score a century before falling on 106 off 143 balls. Notably, Carey himself admitted that there may have been an edge and the technology should’ve picked it up while England bowling coach David Saker indicated that the visitors may raise the matter with the match officials. “The boys are pretty confident he hit it. I think the calibration of the ‘Snicko’ is out,” the Australian told reporters after England toiled through a sweltering day in the field. Australia were 326/8 at Stumps. “It was a pretty important decision. Those things hurt. You’d think in this day and age the technology’s good enough to pick things up like that.” Here is a clip of the sequence of events: England were convinced that Alex Carey was gone, but what’s your take here?#Ashes | #DRSChallenge | @Westpac …

How Usman Khawaja told Michael Neser to keep ego aside and let Alex Carey stand up to the stumps in 2nd Ashes Test | Cricket News

Michael Neser became the oldest Aussie fast bowler to claim a five-for in Australia’s second Test win of the 2025 Ashes at Gabba as they marched to a 8-wicket win after his 5-42. At age 35, all his outings for the Baggy Greens have played in pink-ball Tests. But on his return from the wilderness, a controversial call that saw Nathan Lyon, lone spinner, being dropped, Neser also had to get used to another thing – wicketkeeper Alex Carey standing up to the stumps to him. ESPNCricinfo noted how it gad been a notable feature of this Test, just like in Neser’s previous Test against West Indies in 2022, when the chirpy gloveman helped pile on the pressure. . “I know the role I play is very different to the other quicks,” Neser told ESPNCricinfo. “Being a shorter bowler, maybe not as quick, it’s a way for me to keep the batters on the crease and bring the stumps into play. I’ve done it a lot in the past,” recalled the 6 footer. “The first …

ICC Champions Trophy: Steve Smith & Alex Carey show how it’s done as Aussies compile fighting total | Cricket News

For the first time in this Champions Trophy, one could see India under pressure. In each of their three outings before this semi-final, they have been precise in their planning and the execution in the middle has been mostly fool-proof. But on Tuesday, for a large part of the afternoon, Steve Smith and Alex Carey would keep Rohit Sharma and India under the pump with some quality batting in yet another testing environment. The two put together only a 54-run stand, off just 58 deliveries, but with scores of 73 and 61 respectively powered Australia to 264 – the highest total made till in the Dubai leg.
