File | Photo Credit: The Hindu Allocations for the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, and the Tribal Affairs Ministry remained largely the same in the Union Budget 2026-27 compared with the 2025-26 Budget Estimates (BE). The Ministries implement welfare schemes for marginalised sections such as the Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Denotified Tribes (DNTs), and Economically Weaker Section (EWS). According to Budget documents, the Social Justice Department’s allocation for 2026-27 is ₹13,687.59 crore and the Tribal Affairs Ministry has been allocated ₹15,421.97 crore. The allocations have increased by 16.69% and 42.47% respectively compared with their respective Revised Estimates (RE) for the current fiscal. In comparison with the BE, the amounts have increased by 0.56% and 3.32% respectively. Ensuring fiscal and social gains, it has expanded 16 times in this period starting from 11 crore beneficiaries to 176 crore now. According to a quantitative assessment, conducted by the BlueKraft Digital Foundation, the direct benefit transfer (DBT) system has redefined welfare delivery by increasing transparency, curbing leakages, and ensuring precise fund distribution. The policy document evaluates data from 2009 to 2024 to assess DBT’s impact on budgetary efficiency, subsidy rationalisation, and social outcomes. The budgetary allocations for the Information and Broadcasting Ministry recorded a slight decline from ₹4,626.71 crore to ₹4,358.38 crore this year. While proposed funds for the establishment expenditure of the Ministry are pegged at ₹142.70 crore, some ₹38.27 crore for Art and Culture, and ₹401.53 crore for Information and Publicity have been allocated. The government has allocated ₹500 crore for broadcasting infrastructure network development, ₹363 crore for development communication and dissemination of filmic content, ₹238 crore for the development communication and information dissemination, and ₹17.40 crore for supporting community radio movement. Vijay Kumar Twenty Points Programmes Implementation (Vikasit Bharat 2047 and Swarnana Andhra 2047) Chairperson Lanka Dinakar submitted a memorandum to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on December 18 (Wednesday), seeking steps to continue the support of Central government to Andhra Pradesh. In the memorandum, Mr. Dinakar requested Ms. Sitharaman to increase the capital expenditure allocations to ₹13.50 lakh crore in the upcoming budget. For long-term interest-free loans to states for capital expenditure, an allocation between ₹2 lakh core to ₹2.50 lakh crore was necessary. Allow the additional interest-free long-term loans for irrigation projects in the drought-prone areas, particularly in the backward districts, he said. Mr. Dinakar stressed the need for special allocations under Centrally sponsored schemes for skill development.
