The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Wednesday withdrew a proposal to increase the monthly fuel allowance for civic officials to Rs 50,000 following criticism and concerns over fuel conservation. The proposal had appeared on the agenda during a Standing Committee meeting and quickly sparked public debate. PCMC Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi confirmed that the proposal was cancelled during the meeting. Central government employees are likely to receive a salary increase in April 2026, as an announcement regarding the January 2026 Dearness Allowance (DA) hike is expected next month. A commotion broke out outside Khadya Bhavan, the headquarters of the West Bengal Food and Civil Supplies Department, on Friday (March 13, 2026) as a section of State government employees tried to prevent colleagues from entering the office during a ‘cease-work’ agitation over pending dearness allowance. The protest was called by the ‘Sangrami Joutha Mancha’ (Joint Movement Forum) to press the State government for payment of DA arrears, and implementation of a recent Supreme Court direction on the issue. Forum leader Bhaskar Ghosh claimed that most State government employees abstained from work, and said the protesters appealed to those who turned up to stay away in solidarity with the agitation. “We offered red roses to those who came to work, requesting them not to attend office today. The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a Dearness Allowance (DA) hike for serving and retired members of the judiciary. Minister for Law and Justice N. Md. Farooq said on Thursday that the Law Department issued orders raising the DA for High Court judges, judicial officers, retired judges, pensioners, and family pensioners to 58% from the existing 55%.
