First came the prison drama Bandar, followed by the Partition-era romance Main Vaapas Aaunga. While both films earned critical acclaim, their box-office performance has been largely underwhelming. Now, Kashyap has spoken about what he sees as a growing problem in the theatrical business, the lack of opportunities for smaller films to find an audience through word of mouth. ‘Nobody has actually seen it in theatres’ Last week, the filmmaker took to Instagram to point out that most prime-time shows had been allotted to the Hollywood blockbuster Obsession, while Hindi films such as Bandar and Main Vaapas Aaunga struggled to secure screens. Elaborating on his concerns in an interview with HT City, he said, “I get angry, upset because people keep coming to me and talking about how they love this film and that film. I often ask them, ‘Where did you see it?’ and nobody has actually seen it in theatres. I’m …

Changing tourist preferences, the draft underlines, have increased demand for smaller, personalised and community-based accommodation options that are affordable and offer local experiences. Promoting B&B establishments, it said, can supplement hotel infrastructure, generate additional household income and support inclusive and sustainable tourism. Significantly, the policy has introduced two new categories — ‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’– to classify units on the basis of room standards, sanitation, safety arrangements and service quality. Mandatory CCTV cameras, police verification and compliance with safety and hygiene norms are among other key aspects of the draft. Transwomen Allowed Hormone Therapy Amid 2026 Act Challenge

2 min readBengaluruMay 7, 2026 10:09 PM IST In a significant interim ruling, the Karnataka High Court Thursday permitted two transgender women to continue their hormone replacement therapy (HRT), providing relief against potential disruptions caused by recent legislative changes. Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum stated, “Petitioners shall be permitted to continue their hormone replacement therapy, as per their existing medical record. The continuation of the treatment shall be, however, subject to the outcome of the present petition and any order that may be passed by the Apex Court, including in any transfer proceedings.” The petitioners moved the High Court to declare the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act, 2026, unconstitutional. They argued that the Act violates fundamental rights guaranteed under Articles 14, 15(1), 16, 19, and 21 of the Indian Constitution. A primary point of contention was the revised definition of a “transgender person” under Section 2(K) of the Act. The petitioners fear that this amendment creates legal hurdles that could restrict their access to gender-affirming healthcare. Senior Advocate Jayna Kothari argued that the petitioners …

Are Chinese ships allowed to pass through Strait of Hormuz? Iran clarifies as vessel forced to return

Amid the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has clarified that it hasn’t given Chinese ships any blanket approval to transit through the key oil and gas route. About half of India’s crude oil and LPG supplies pass through the Strait of Hormuz. (REUTERS/ Representative) The Iranian consulate in Mumbai said in a post on X that the Islamic Republic didn’t grant a Chinese bulk carrier passage through the Strait of Hormuz. “Iran didn’t grant passage to a Chinese vessel. Leslee Lewis: ‘Ashaji never allowed herself to be defined by one era’

Some voices are heard, and some, felt. Asha Bhosle was always felt. She had that rare gift of turning every song into a lived emotion. For all of us in music, she was a benchmark we measured ourselves against. Not just for her range or versatility, but for her courage. She never allowed herself to be defined by one sound or era. She kept pushing boundaries. She and Pancham da [RD Burman] were close to my father, PL Raj. I still remember the first time I met her — this was at Duke’s Retreat in Khandala. When my father told her I liked playing the guitar, she didn’t indulge me with polite praise. She simply said, ‘Music is not for everyone. Focus on your studies.’ Asha Bhosle with RD Burman. Pic/Instagram Years later, I was approached to work on a project with Ashaji. Initially, I was hesitant, but I was told that RD Burman had wanted to recreate his old songs in a new style with me. That’s how the remix project, Rahul & I, …
